Body for Life - what is this regimen about?

I saw a website - doesn't seem too bad. Do I have to drink a shake at certain times a day though? I don't like that idea. Can I substitute something else for a shake?

Is there a book I can get that explains the nutritional part? What about the exercise part?

Thanks!
Mary

Re: Body for Life - what is this regimen about?

There's a book you can buy by Bill Phillips. It truly is the only thing that's ever really worked for me. I'm not overweight to begin with, but tend to get a little flabby here and there; I'm kind of narrow from the front, but very 3-dimensional from teh side. But, Body for LIfe totally changed the shape of my body.

It's an exercise and diet plan. You eat six small meals a day instead of three big ones and each should contain a portion of protein, a portion of QUALITY carbohydrate (brown bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white, etc.) and you fit in vegetables where you can, as much as you want. The shakes are optional as meal supplements, I don't ever use them.

You need to exercise 6 days a week alternating days between 20 minutes of cardio (I run) and weight training.

On the seventh day you rest - eat whatever you want and don't exercise. It's a mental release as well as letting your body know that you're not starving it.

You should definitely read the book. He explains everything in detail and lays it all out so that you can understand the science of everthing. It does take some planning on your part though as far as preparing meals in advace and fitting in the exercise.

Good luck!

Re: Body for Life - what is this regimen about?

I did body for life 2 years ago. It works, but it is tough because it is for so long. You can only eat certain foods and have to do specific exercies. You also have to take protein shakes. By the end of the program I craved everything and could no longer stand tuna fish.

You don't have to drink protein shakes!!! You can use them to replace meals, but I never have. There is the tuna thing though - it's almost all protein and it's easy, so you end up eating a lot of it.

I was actually just going to post about Body for Life today - I had gained about 10lbs in the last 6 months and lost a lot of muscle tone because I haven't done a single thing!!! and I've been back on Body for Life for 2.5 weeks now and it's totally amazing!!! It makes me feel so good and it's so worth it!! After just a few weeks, I can already see the difference!
