This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
His stupid sizing charts SuK!
I ordered my BM dressed based on the measurements from netbride.
My SIL & my Sister both are about the same size, NORMALLY my sister wears a 5 and my SIL a 3.
According to the ‘chart’ they wear 8’s.
“Buy larger, cut down” blah blab blah so I did.
Guess what?? They are ALL too large. So much large it will cost nearly $100 to fix the damned dresses! The dresses themselves were $101!!!!!! What the F am I supposed to do now. SIL is only in town until tomorrow (going back to school) and god knows my sister in IOWA doesn’t really have a whole lot of options.
Lets add insult to injury - I haven’t hear a WORD from my MOH for over a month. The “I swear I’m there for you” crap forced Jim & I to agree to just pay for her dress and see what’s what.
Well not a WORD. There are less than 60 days to my wedding and my MOH’s dress is sitting in our room.
AARRRRRGH!
Im thinking I may just have to go to some store and buy them fancy red dresses and be done with this crap and eat the cost. I can’t expect them to pay for another dress. So.. questions are
- How do I find Bill Levkoff gowns off the rack, if possible - How do I sell brand new Bill Levkoff gowns? - Why me?

Sorry
Estelles dressy dresses in Farmingdale is a good place to get dresses off the rack, but I don't think they carry Bill Levkof.

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
Maybe take them to a diff. place to get altered? I wouldnt buy new dresses. They may cost more money than just taking the gowns to a different seamstress..... Good luck! I have Bill Levkoff gowns, too...hope I dont have the same problem!

Can you return them? I know this may sound silly, but even if you order them online you should be able to get some satisfaction.

Thats a great idea! Try a semastress that works out of her home. I know one in Kings Park also.

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
Thanks to all of you
Lisa Rose..Julz.. Can you ladies please FM the seamstress details? Thanks!
Jen I sent an Email to MOH saying she has 2 days to reply and 5 days for her check to arrive or she's out. I have no time for this BS.
They always intended to pay for their own alterations, but the way the dress is, if they alter it to FINALLY fit the front part will pucker out and you could see straight to their belly buttons!!! Im not sure how the dresses will look after such drastic changes.
*sigh*

Now, if I was your BM and something was telling me I needed to order a size 18-- I would definitely get to the bottom of it..
I hate that wedding dress and BM dresses always make you "order up".. so not good for the ego..
OK-- let's think of suggestions for you.. I think your best bet is to go to Macy's-- or especially Lord & Taylor- who are known for their dress selection and see what you can find..
I would also check out Lohman's, Saks off Fifth and stuff for reduced price desginer stuff.

Maybe check out Craigslist.com, ebay or other wedding websites - there may be girl selling dresses since the wedding was cancelled, etc.
Good luck!

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
I am so sorry! I bought a Lazaro dress for my MOH's wedding and they gave me such large size I needed to pay around the same $120. Sometimes. I feel like they make you buy those big sizes for that reason! I think you should call your MOH and ask her what is going on.

Bloomingdale's on 59th street also has a bridemaids collection - I beleive they may carry vera and amsale, and other more affordable lines..I used to be a buyer there - but obvisously not for dresses bc then I would have known the exact details!!

I don't know what to say!!! Maybe continue looking for another seamstress who can do the alterations for less then you can cover the cost of THAT for them, rather than a whole new dress! It will work out!!

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
This may sound nuts but I remember reading about a bride (here or on the Knot) who waltzed her girls to Ann Taylor and got simple column dresses (in red, I think) off the rack. They carry similar styles each season and are a real bargain. I remember thinking (if noone is pregnant) -- great idea! And I think AT goes to a true size 14.

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
Send them the dresses and have them go to their own tailors to alter them.
But tell them to have the hems done about 1 inch from the groudn WHILE they have the shoes on so they are all the same - for the most part, you won't ever get it in perfect unison no matter what. If not 1 inch then 1.5 inches..whatever...just make sure they all know that number and to tell the tailor.
Why make it any harder on yourself?

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
I am sure they can be altered fine with the right seamstress. It just seems to me that buying new dresses would cost as much as altering the old. I think the suggestions above about a seamstress working from home is the way to go. I am using one for my gown and she is a lot more affordable.

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
Bridesmaids dresses are such a scam! The size charts are total BS and you always end up having to buy some ridiculously huge dress. The dress companies must be in collusion with the bridal salons, so that you first overpay for the dresses, then have to pay even more for alterations. So they both win. I have learned to NOT order the size that I am according to the size chart, even if the person in the salon is swearing to me that the dress won't fit. In general I think people can go down 2 sizes and be fine.
Sorry, I don't have any advice, just commiserating. BM dress companies suck.

1 - call some salons & see if there ar any coming trunk shows or sample sales....also check ouyt the bill levkoff website.
2- you can try to sell them here or on Ebay, or maybe even on craigslist.org.....also see if you can post in FIT's student webpage...alot of photography and fashion students need stuff like that for projects.
3 - i don't know, why you...some ridiculous vengeful force in the universe....at least that's what I tell myself

Re: This can NOT be happening!! I hate Bill Levkoff
I would definitely try to get some quotes from other seamstresses before you try to find replacement dresses. From what I've learned, it is relatively easy to make dresses smaller, but nearly impossible to make them bigger. My gown was a sample and needed to be taken in a lot (I'm a twig, who wishes I wasn't a twig), but thanks to my fantastic seamstress, it fits me like a glove now! She's in Queens, if that's convient for you let me know and I'll give you her contact info.
Best of luck!!
