Baby Shower Gift ...

I'll give you two questions:

How much would you spend on a baby shower gift for a very close friend's first baby?

Would you spend the same amount if it was DH's very close friend's wife's shower (who you are not necessarily friends with - there are no issues, you just don't happen to be *friends*).

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

So you're saying the $200 I spent was a bit overboard?

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

Well, it depends on what you bought? a piece of 'furniture' like a high chair or a swing or something and then a few outfits...that could easily run into $200!! But, I don't think you need to spend that much on your husband's friend's wife....I would say $50 is plenty, just some clothes or something. H&M is GREAT for baby clothes!!!!! You could get a bunch of stuff and it'll look like quite a lot.

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

I just spent $150 on the wife of a close friend of FH

I'd porbably do the same or spend more for a close friend of mine

BUT - I always aim to spend less - like $75 - but ALWAYS have no self control and spend more.

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

I spent $100 for my best friends children. For my FSIL, we spent $300- first baby in the family, so we're all going a little overboard because we are soo happy!!

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

My original thought was to spend between $100-150 but I bought a hamper off her registry ($20) with the intent of filling it with other stuff and just couldn't stop myself!

They were generous at our wedding so maybe they won't think I am a complete nutcase.

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

I spent a lot on my SIL, for my best friend I'd probably spend over $100.

Our BM's wife had a baby last year, they were married after being together for a very short time and we didn't really know her - I spent $50.

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

For one of my BMs, I spent about $150 on her gift (I got a rocker type thing). She is one of my closest friends and one of the first in 'our group' to have a baby.
I agree with the above posts, I would probably not spend as much on one of FH's friends wives if I wasn't friends with her. The gifts so far though have come from him so I haven't had much of a say. I haven't gone to any showers alone, just Christenings and Baby namings together.

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

my very good friend's first baby got a $75 gift certificate to Tiffany's, along with a baby place setting, also from Tiffany's...it cost about $80. For her baptismal I bought a 'Baby Plant' in an engraved silver pot that can also be used later on to save a curl from the baby's first haircut or a first tooth. That cost about $55, and I also gave a $100 Bond.

I would not spend as much on DH friend unless he chose a specific gift that had sentimental value.....

Re: Baby Shower Gift ...

Acquaintances...either of mine or DH''s, I spend about $30-$50.

good friends-Best friend - $75-$100

It really depends on the person. I take each case individually. I have a shower next weekend for one of my 2 closest friends (1st baby) and I spent about $75.
My best friend had her first about 2 years ago and I feel badly because I didn't go overboard - been best friends for about 20 years. I was single and kinda low on $$. I plan on making it up to her with baby #2 due in Nov :)

I'm throwing them a joint baby luncheon in Sept. so I'm sure I'll get them some more goodies for that too :)
