any high school(math preferably) teachers out there?

I am finishing my degree this semester to be certified in 7 - 12 mathematics.

How does the job field look?

(I am not banking on getting a job in January but would take a position if I found one , I am thinking about next fall)

Re: any high school(math preferably) teachers out there?

I am at C.W. Post and I will be student teaching this semester. I am so excited about it !!!

I am going to try to find a job for January but I won't be heart broken if I don't get one(most people say it is very difficult to start teaching mid-year).

Where should I look for a job?? Someone had told me to check the NY Times. Is that right?

WHERE ARE YOU STUDENT TEACHING?
IM ACTAULLY TAKING A GRAD COURSE AT POST THIS FALL.
INTRO TO ABSTRACT ALGEBRA THE PROF IS ZEINALIAN DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM OR HER?

Just remember student teaching is a big interview.
I think it is more difficult mid year also. Many districts begin the hiring process around feb-march. But for the following year.

Re: any high school(math preferably) teachers out there?

OMG, you have Prof Zenalian !!

I am taking euclidean geometry with him(he's the only one that teaches it) this semester and from my classmates that had him last semester, they said that while he was a good teacher he was not nice and told them all that they better be prepared to work in his class and so on. But, they said that he warmed up over the semester and all so I think he just acts like that in the beginning to scare people. So, if he says anything like that the first few classes, I am not going to get scared and don't you get scared either.

BTW, abstract algebra is a really cool class. You learn so much in that class it is unreal, but so worth it !!!!

ETA: I am student teaching in Huntington

Now youve scared me

Student teaching should be fun. You should send out resumes to everyone. The NYTimes is a good place to start. How did you choose the school?

This site lists jobs for districts enrolled through Nassau Boces....you can also post your resume and schools can contact you:

Im not sure how good this site is in NY. I used it in PA and had tons of schools contacting me (I teach science):

Re: any high school(math preferably) teachers out there?

OMG, I am so not trying to scare you. I am trying to make you see that while he may be scary the first few classes, there is no reason to be. Sorry if I scared ya !!!!

I chose that school because I wanted a diverse district(to see what I wanted as a teacher) and I live in Huntington Village so I wanted something close.
