Girls already married. A little personal.
You dont have to answer but I am just wondering if the parents did not pay for the wedding ( didnt help at all or only helped with some things) how much of a gift did they give you? I am just wondering sorry if too personal.

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
We paid for our wedding 100 percent. My mom and dad have both passed away, and his mom gave us a few thousand as a wedding gift AFTER the wedding.

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
We are not married yet.... but my mom already gave me my gift. She gave us $5000 (1K was a gift to me for honeymoon clothes and the rest was for both of us, I am assuming to help with the house we might get)
and she bought my dress.BTW: We paid for the whole wedding ourselves.

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
As time went by, our moms chipped in more and more...Upfront, they each gave us a sum of money. but, as we were planning, we weren't going to do limos because of the cost, so my mom paid for them. His mom didn't like the original favors that we were going to get, so she offered to pay for our favors so that we could have something more substantial.
But, we had a 2 year engagement. So, I think because it was such a long time frame, it was easier for them to help upfront and then again later on...

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
My parents paid for the sit down dinner, my grandparents paid for the band, my mother in law made the favors (tart warmers), we paid for everything else (limos, photographer, flowers, etc) My uncle (who was more like my brother) had passed away 2 years prior and always wanted to buy my wedding dress, so before he died he made sure he gave me $2000 to cover the cost, oh and my godmother bought me headpiece and veil!

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
Both our parents were divorced, and 3 out of 4 have passed away. We are paying for our wedding ourselves -- mostly out of my inheritance from my father. Before he passed away, my Father was giving us $20,000 towards the wedding, etc. plus he was paying for my dress. FH's mother lives paycheck to paycheck, but she has said she is giving us $1,000. She's not paying for the rehearsal dinner either.

My parents are paying for dress, flowers, ceremony, and reception. We are paying dj, photo favors, and the minister(its an interfaith marriage) His parents through the e-party but only after goign and asking them too. It looks like if we go over what my parents can pay, we have to pay for some guests too

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
His parents gave us a total of of 10K to help with wedding and 5K to cover RD (Way too much). I tried to tell them no but they insisted. My parents are divorced and my mom & stepdad gave us our HM to Aruba as a wedding gift. They also threw our e-party at their home and againg opened up their home for our RD (much cozier & intimate & we were able to have a Friday night). My dad & stepmother didn't pay for anything. I never asked but they never offered anything. The only thing that was offered was a week before the RD my stepmother offered to make a tray or two of ziti when I already had the whole thing catered.
We got a card from my dad with $200 at the wedding.

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
My dad is giving us 25k to put towards whatever we want ( of course Ill use it towards reception) and my mom is doing bridal shower and dressing me head to toe as she puts it. My parents are divorced and I think are doing way too much, my mom just spent 7800 on furniture for our engagement gift. we have a house for 3 yrs now and its not furnished properly just odd and ends. His dad I think said he wants to pay for limos and RD, his mom is deceased. Whatever is left we will pay for. I have to start.

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
My mom paid for a lot of our wedding(reception, officiant, invitations, & everything having to do w/ my dress & appearance, makeup, hair, etc.). She also paid for limos, but as a gift from my grandfather who passed away the year before(this money came from what he left her). My inlaws gave us a total of $3000($2000 about 10 months before to help w/ expenses & $1000 at wedding). They also paid for RD. My aunt/godmother paid for our honeymoon(cruise).

Re: Girls already married. A little personal.
My mom gave us $5000 toward our HM as a gift... (actually she intended to pay for the whole HM but we changed from Hawaii to Tahiti which meant more $$$ so we covered the extra ourselves)She also gave me money toward my dress.
FH's parents gift to us is the RD, I think... they told us after the shower (which they gave us ALOT of gifts) that there wasn't going to be any other wedding gift so I assume that's it.
We are paying for the wedding ourselves... but actually mostly me (about 90% me) because FH bought our home and is supporting it on his own until I move in after the wedding.
