what town should i live in?

this may seem like a weird question but we are just starting to look at houses. we don't really plan on buying for a year or more, but we want to get a feel for neighborhoods and what houses look like and stuff. more than likely prices will go up in the next few years, but we just want to get some preliminary research in so that when we start seriously looking we'll be better educated.

anyway, i grew up in northport and love it there, but i'm wondering what other towns are worth considering? i don't know a whole lot about other places. i love that northport is near the water, that it's fairly small, has a few train stations nearby and the community feel it has to it.

anyone have any input for other towns to explore? preferably not further east than northport.

If you love Northport, why are you considering looking elsewhere?

well it will most likely be too expensive for us and also we are thinking that being closer to the city might be good if we're still commuting there.

Sayville, Oakdale are nice if you'd consider south shore.

Seaford is a great little town on the water with a big community feel to it.

Re: what town should i live in?

i LOVE northport and looking to purchase a home there or in fort salonga. i wouldn't give up hope. there are some properties that are fairly 'reasonably' priced. it really depends on what you are looking for, property = $$$$. if you are looking for a starter home, then there are many properties available in the $400-500 range.

you could always look into e. northport. the dollar goes a lot farther there.
