Interesting job opportunity - could it be fate??? UPDATE

Last week, one of my colleagues came over to me and told me she needed to talk to me, but said she needed to be discreet. I used to work in the press office at a ballet company in New York and since about June, I've been working in the press office at an arts centre here in London, but just part time. This colleague used to work at a ballet company in London that I would consider to be the equivalent of ABT (the company I worked for in NY). She said that she had had dinner with some of her former colleagues and that they were seriously considering expanding their press dept. and that they had an entire conversation about me. She gave me their details and told me they were interested in talking with me about it and that I should send them a note. I did that very day and they wrote back immediately to set up a meeting. It's tomorrow at 9:30am!!!

I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm pretty excited. I was kind of disappointed that the job I'm currently at was only part time, but thought that I should take it because it was a foot in the door. It looks as though I might have been right!!! Fingers crossed!!!!

Thanks everyone.

Well, I had my meeting this morning and it was kind of cryptic.

I met with a director of public affairs and a woman who works in Marketing. They asked me about my current situation and then said Unfortunately we don't have anything to offer you right now, but there's always turnover...I was like what? They called the meeting, I didn't, so I was a bit confused. Then it got a little clearer later on I think....We continued talking for a bit and then said Well, if something were to come up in like a second, what would your availability be? and then kind of backtracked by saying that IF something were to come up they would have to, by law, advertise externally, and I would have to go through an interview process, and they couldn't promise me anything, yada, yada, yada.

What I think is going on is they're about to create a new position, but they really can't tell me that...anyway, I'm just about to send them a thank you and we'll see where it goes from there.

Either that or someone is going to be let go. HR does that often. They want the transition to be as seamless as possible and by having someone waiting in the wings, they're free to let the other person go.

I was going to say the same thing or they know someone is leaving (maybe maternity, etc).

Either they are going to create a new position or they are going to fire someone and hire you but they can't say anything right now.

I do't think they would have asked for a meeting if they didn't want to meet you. I hope something pans out!

Thanks...the girl I work with here said they're looking to expand the department, so I'm pretty sure it's a new position...
