Engagement gifts-can you use them before the wedding?

It's staring at my pile of engagement gidt that are collecting dust? Can we use them before the wedding? And I think shower gifts you can't use?

i dont know what tradition says, but we've used our gifts from the e-party.. we live together already, and registered for the stuff that we needed... i think for our situation it would be silly to just have those boxes stacked everyone, just to stare at for the next few months.... but i think other people may have different ideas about the topic... you should do what youre comfortable with.

i think there may be a superstition behind it... but i like to believe that my relationship isnt going to fall apart because i used my corningware dish before we were officially married

MY mother hides all of our engagement gifts from us because she said it's bad luck to use them before the wedding. To be honest, I'm not about to chance it!

We don't live together - so they're sitting in FH's mom's house.

I don't see why you can't use them though... We're moving in together about a month before the wedding, so we'll probably start using them then :)

I think it's all tradition in my family. And since we're not sticking to many, we've decided to stick to that one. We already lived together prior to getting engaged, so we had everything we needed, just not the good stuff. I guess it leaves something to look forward to for us.

Thank guys- I feel much better! As we speak my FH is hanging a clock we got as a gift from Fortunoff! He's doing it in between commericals-it's FOOTBALL season!!

I haven't used them yet but we live separate. We will move in together in Nov and will use them then. I just don't want to use them without him, you know???

I have heard though that it is not appropriate to use wedding gifts until after the wedding. Some sort of etiqutte thing my mother and grandmother are stuck on.

YES! use them! ha ha...

In my mind, they were ENGAGEMENT gifts... We're Engaged! so we can use them!!! it's not like they were 'Wedding' gifts that we got early... Family gave them to us to celebrate our ENGAGEMENT- WHICH IS NOW! ha ha...
