Re: City Question

i don't know anything about the place, but to get there from penn station, you should take either the 1, 2, 3, or 9 train downtown (any of the red lines - all have stops at penn station), and get off at 14th st. you'll be on 7th ave. so you'll have to walk east.
have fun at your concert!

Re: City Question

I've never been inside- but I've passed it- it looks clean. 14th street between 6th and 7th isn't my favorite stretch (it isn't seedy or dangerous- it's just a lot of disount stores, fast food places, etc).

From Penn Station you can take the 1 or 9 down town to 14th street (those lines run on 7th ave) and then walk East 1 block (or 1/2 block_)

Nah, a cab for 20 blocks won't be too expensive at all. There's a taxi que right on 7th under the MSG marquis.

Re: City Question

You can also take the N, R or W line on 34th street and broadway (its either 7th ave or broadway) to 14th street and that will take you to Union Square. You can also take the 1,2,3 or 9 if you feel more comfortable just getting on the subway right in Penn Station. The area there is very nice, you will have nothing to worry about. You can take a cab, which will run you around 10 bucks, but if there is a lot of traffic it will take a while to get there by cab.

A cab should not cost you $10!! I vote $6, maybe a little more depending on traffic. I used to commute and I worked in Union Square. Cab from there was usually about $5.

You will be dying by the time you get there if you walk!

The subways are very safe, I live in NYC and I get on the subway at night all the time by myself and there are always plenty of people and cops around, especially if you are taking the train from Penn station.

Are you aware that the cab fares went up recently? I may not come out to $10 buks. It will definitely be more than $5 buks. Plus if she travells between 4-8pm... there is an additional $1 surcharge.

Yes absolutely. When the fares went up to $2.50/30cent intervals... they added an evening rush hour surcharge.

If you travel between 4-8pm in a yellow cab... there is a $1 surcharge. This is just like the 50cent 'night surchage' that you get if you travel after 8pm.

Its $2.50 just to get into the cab..then the $1 charge during those hours mentioned, and an extra 50 cents during night time..

One of my friends lives in Union Square and when I go and visit him from here, it is always $10 before tipping. There is no such thing as a $5 cab ride anymore. Even when I take a cab from my apartment to Penn station (10 blocks) it costs me more than $5..Hence that is why I am the subway queen!

Re: City Question

It actually cost me $6 buks to literally just go over the 59st bridge. I got the cab at 1ns avenue and 58st... got immediately on the bridge... and the cab driver drove three blocks in queens to drop me off at Queens Plaza. $6 buks plus tip.

Cabs are definitely more expensive now... especially on the longer trips. My 12mile cab ride home from work went up about $7 buks before tip after the increase.
