Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

Ok I'll stick my neck out. It is a very very flawed system, and as I posted before I find myself seeking local candidates (during local elections) who are interested in changing it.
It is a system that became antiquated with general literacy and mass media.

However, it is important for everyone to vote, or they are just simply making the decisions for you without your input. At least with people voting, there is congressional repercussions if the local elecoral college does not vote the way of the local popular vote. NY is an important state in the election, just like Ca, Tx etc...we shouldn't take it too much for granted.

I think that a person's vote always counts... swing state, red state, or blue state. Doesn't matter. Voting is part of our duty as citizens.

That's my two cents!

Very cool so far.. OK here's my take on this...

I'm not a Kerry guy. The man does not inspire me.. does not make me feel safe. I am very leery of his political stances.

I'm not really a Bush guy either. While I think he's better at defending the country, there are his economic policies that could spank us all in the a$$ when we are just about to retire.

I know NY is Kerry land by and large.

Local politics interest me more.

Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

I think my Presidential vote does not count ( Fh STRONGLY believes this)

My vote for local city of Mt. Vernon officals may matter, but I am moving right after the election,so really State level only matters personally.

I fail to see how individual votes matter in a Democratic state with the electoral college the way it is.

If you know, please explain.

I agree. But as you said, it is important to vote.

Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

If I'm being honest...I do not feel that my vote counts (for President). NY goes Democrat and that's the way it is (IMO) so regardless of how I vote (and I will vote), I don't think I'm changing anything one way or the other.

omg OG all day yesterday I was htinking of posting this and then I forgot.

I read an article in rolling stone and it said 'john lennon could rise fomr the dead and hold a Bush rally in central park and NY would still go democrat' very true. Really only 2.5 million people's votes count. That's less than the population of brooklyn and queens

Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

Haig said thta I really do think everyone should go out and vote because you never know. Also, there was an article in the NYT metro section a few weeks ago about how the candidates come to all kinds of events an fundraisers in NY and take a LOT of $$ from us, but they do little to no campaigning here becayse they've predetermined that kerry will win. I don't like bieng taken for granted, and it IS a flawed system.

Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

Tough Question..I've always questioned my vote..though I do...because my vote in the end does not literally affect the counting and who wins...BUT, I do anyway...

I too believe local politics is the place to make your vote count , they are the persuaders and they are closer to our day to day lives, and make bigger impacts in the big picture on how we live.

Re: POLL -- Agree or Disagree: I live in NY.. in this Presidential election year, my vote does not count.

I don't think that my vote has any importance in the upcoming Presidential election, but voting makes me feel like I might matter. It is kinda like when I ask for my DH's opinion and then do what I wanted to anyway. By asking his opinion I am giving him a vote and making him feel included. In reality the decision was already made without him.
