So tomorrow is the day...(Kinda long vent sorry)
I'm going to tell my parents that I'm pregnant. We're going out for a birthday dinner and then after dinner, when my father opens his presents, I'm giving him a picture frame with 'grandma & grandpa' on it. Now everyone may say...oh what a cute idea, they're going to love it but my stomach is flipping over!Anyone who knows my father, knows that he is a stickler for saving your money, waiting until you have a house before a child...yadda, yadda, yadda. He is a kind man, who is very opinionated and he'll tell you the truth to your face....like it or not. On a personal side, he has just overcome cancer and is on his way to recovery, so he has a new outlook on life.
So when I tell them tomorrow, I'm nervous that I won't get a positive reaction out of him...that he'll say...How are you going to raise a child in that one bedroom co-op or now you're stuck because you'll never save any money. I've held off for about 2 weeks (since I knew I was pregnant) and it kills me because I know my mother is going to be extremely happy. Has anyone been in a similiar situation or have any good words for me? Please???

Don't worry about it.. Just enjoy the moment. I know it seems hard right now but i am sure that once the sincereness of the moment comes out he will be overcome to say anything. Besides, you and your husband are overcome with joy and happiness over your pregnancy, nothing should take away from that. And hopefully, as far as his health goes, i am sure he has seen a new light on life and hopefully that will have an effect on his reaction. Best of luck to you and I am sure it will be great. CONGRATULATIONS!

My parents were the same way.. but when it all boiled down to it.. they were going to be grandparents.. their mood changed quickly... I put a pic of the sonogram in the frame I gave them.. They still have it!

Well I wrapped up the frame and the rest of my father's gifts for his birthday. I put a piece of paper inside the frame saying Happy Birthday Grandpa...See you in June! Now I have to wait until 6:00. I feel like such a big stupid kid...not being able to tell my parents...what's the matter with me?

Re: So tomorrow is the day...UPDATE
Ok...so yesterday at my parents house I gave my father his two presents. When he got to the second present (picture frame), I said, this one is for both you and Mom. He hands it over to my mother and she opens it. She reads the letter that I wrote on the inside (Happy Birthday Grandpa..See you in June) and she is confused. She shows it to my father and he says...sooo you're....and I reply...yup.They were so happy and the funniest thing is my father saying...well I was wondering when it was going to happen...you're almost 30.
Can you believe that??? I was freaking out about what they were going to say and here he is...happy
At dinner he even toasted to me and the new baby.
I told my mother that I was afraid to tell my father and she was laughing. I feel so much better now! Now I can enjoy my pregnancy and have positive thoughts all around.
Thanks to all who gave advice!!!

I'm glad it worked out for you! My FIL is the same way - buy a house first, save money..., and my SIL was worried to tell him she was preggo with #2 and he reacted the same way - thrilled!Grandpas are all big mushes!
