Does anyone know why doctors say to be careful when taking birth control and being on antibiotics??

My doctor told me to be careful this month because I am on antibiotics and birth control. What is the correlation between the two? Anyone know? I have my DH in a panic threating no nookie for a while!! Thanks!!

it makes the BC less effective.

It makes the BC non effective - so use something else (condom).

THe bc pill is not 100% and it is less reliable with certain other medications -- my doc told me same thing and he recommended we use anothe form of BC as well as pill while I was taking the anti-biotics.

yeah i'm almost positive it can make the pill totally ineffective. this has happened to a couple i know and they did get prego so be careful!
