Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

Has anyone had low progesterone levels and if so, did you have a hard time getting pregnant? Did you have to take any medication? I know nothing about it and would like to know more.

Thanks

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

I know that before my mom had me she had a MC, they found out her progesterone levels were low and she started taking some progesterone and she got pregnant with my brother almost immediately.

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

I think it can because the placenta is supposed to produce progesterone... if there isnt enough I think it can cause one. Im pretty sure but not 100%

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

hi Karen,

Thanks. I think this might be the reason I miscarried twice already. The last pregnancy, they checked my progesterone and it was low but by the time they got the results I was on vacation and they told me not to leave early. Well I ended up coming home and miscarrying. This time I am going to demand I be seen immediately once I find out I am preggo (I am even thinking of getting the early pregnancy tests). I will have them check my progesterone level and be here to have them do whatever they need to so I can keep my baby. They have checked me for this, in all the testing they have done to find out why I keep miscarrying. But the dr. said it was normal for a normal Non-preggo woman. But he said its kind of a useless test because I am not preggo. So that is what I am going to do.

Thanks for all your help, ALWAYS,

Denise

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

That is an EXCELLENT idea!!! I can ask my mom for some info. I know this time after I MC'd my mom asked me if they put me on progesterone I guess pills when I told her I was pregnant again so I wouldnt MC again. Since I never had any testing Im guessing that the last time was a fluke and hopefully it wont happen again.

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

Thanks Karen,

So you didn't take any pills, right.

It won't happen again, I am sure it was a fluke! That is what I thought too the first time until I miscarried again at the same exact day in the pregnancy as the first one (6.5 weeks).

If you could ask your Mom, that would be great. But like I said I am taking action on this pregnancy, if and when I do get preggo again!

Thanks,
Denise

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

When I found out I was 4 wks pregnant. My Dr. told me that my progesterone levels were very low and she start me on progesterone suppositories to keep my baby. Now I am 13 wks along. I think I can stop taking them at 16 wks. What ever it takes to keep my little bundle of joy.

I hope everything goes well for you.

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

This happened to a good friend of mine. Her progesterone levels were low and she wound up miscarrying. She is now 11 weeks pregnant and has been taking progesterone (I think suppositories?) for the last 8 weeks or so and she only has to take it until she's 12 weeks. Apparently it has alot to do with the pregnancy sticking.

Good luck!!!

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

I am currently taking a progesterone supplement. I have had a chemical pregnancy and a miscarriage. When I wasn't conceiving after the miscarriage, the Dr tested my blood in the 2nd half of my cycle and found that I have a progesterone deficiency. It most likely caused my miscarriage. While we are not pregnant YET- I just started taking progesterone and hope that its the answer to our TTC difficulties.
Your body needs progesterone to make a pregnancy stick. If you're deficient the chances are high you'll miscarry.
PM if you have any specific questions.

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

this might be a silly question ...but how do they test your levels.....by drawing blood? Do they do this right away? My doctor never mentioned this to me or even took blood when I initially found out i was pregnant.

Re: Repost from TTC-progesterone levels

Yes by drawing blood. As long as they drew blood from you when you went for your first visit after finding out you were preggo, then they checked for it. if you didn't hear anything you are fine! :)

Sam, thanks. My Dr. took it in the second half also and said it was normal. I don't know.

I think I will test tomorrow...
