BTDT Moms- Question about labor

So describe contractions-the early ones not full force labor ones- as best as you can.

I would love to hear some stories of how women knew they were in labor. I am so nervous that I'm going to be in labor and have no clue. Like right now I'm feeling some pain in my lower back. Could that mean something? Who the hell knows.

So please share some stories and give an idea of how you knew. Thanks!!!

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

From what I can remember I was feeling a little different all day but when it came 'time' I started having what felt like BH contrax but just a little more intense. Nothing special. I was laying down on my bed watching something on TV. When I felt the first tightening I started checking the clock, they lasted for about 15-30 seconds... they came every 8 minutes. I timed them for about an hour before deciding I was actually in labor and that I should call Derek to come home, he was playing golf. My MIL was cooking dinner and she started freaking out. I was much more calm than I thought I was going to be. She had to have a beer to relax. It was pretty funny. I was 5 days late so I knew something had to be happening. I called my doc and ate dinner. The contrax started at 5:48PM and I left for the hospital about 8:30/9PM and I can remember in the car they started getting more painful but only enough for me to say OUCH.

Is it time for the baby to come????

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

The baby is 8 days late so it could come at any minute.

What did the contractions feel like to you?

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

Braxton Hicks. Just tightening with VERY little pain in the beginning. They would start, get stronger then fade away.

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

With my son, my water broke (trickling) and then about and hour or so later the contractions started. The water breaking really leaves no room for doubt. But with my daughter, I contracted all of the day before she was born and didnt even realize that was it. It was only around 11pm that night when I was doubled over with contrax that I thought - DUH - maybe I should call my OB. The big thing was the pain radiated to my lower back, it felt like my kidneys were throbbing during the contraction. The contrax were not even worth timing b/c they were very erratic. Really it was that lower back pain that pretty much told me this is probably it.

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

I've been having on and off pain in my back all day. Around 6:30 or so I started feeling tightening in my abdominal area. It's not strong at all but there's something going on. We're timing them here and there and there seems to be a pattern so I could be in the very early stages of labor. Right now I'm feeling it about every 12-15 minutes and it's lasting about 90 seconds to 2 minutes.

When I do feel the tightening I also feel the baby moving a lot. Is that normal?

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

ooohh, I hope its labor for you. I cant explain it yet cause I havent gotten there - but I guess I should start to pay more attention too. I get the backaches almost every day but I dont have any tightening of the stomach, only dull cramping. I had the MILDEST spotting yesterday but I figured it was from my internal check.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU! Can't wait to hear your news!

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

So the baby has decided not to come yet. I am still feeling achy and crampy and I'm getting that tightening. But this baby doesn't want to send me into full blown labor yet. Maybe today though.

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

I didn't really know when I was in labor either - I had mild cramping all day long and it kept me up almost all night - not major pain but annoying enough to keep up!
My water never broke - but by 5 am I was an emotional mess - I called my mom and she told me to call my OBGYN - he told me to go to the hospital. When I got there - everything stopped! But they kept me there and decided to induce me, they broke my water, and eight hours later my son was born!!!

Re: BTDT Moms- Question about labor

My water started leaking in the middle of the night. I called my dr. I met him at the hospital where my water really broke! I had to be induced. The contractions felt like AF cramps multiplied many times over.
