QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
From my late best friend. She always told me when most frazzled to think about the absolute worst thing that could happen if everything went wrong -- genius, because nothing is ever that bad when you really think about it. I am simplifying, but this has helped me through some rough patches. Her loss itself taught me the value of treasuring every moment we get and truly not to ache over the small stuff--pretty true, after her, it is pretty hard for traffic and stuff like that to get me...getting upset about stupid stuff is really not a worthwhile thing.
(Wow, did not mean to be heavy, also OK if someone told you to reapply lip gloss or something :)

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
This is more of a pact that FI and I have discussed and make sure to follow every day:To remember what is important in life
To always tell those we love that we do love them and make time to spend with them
To always say I love you to each other
To kiss before we leave the house and before we go to sleep everyday
To appreciate what we do for each other and what we mean to each other

I'm sure i'll add more later, but the one thing that comes to mind right now is:If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
From my mom... no one is perfect.. Yes, it is a cliched saying.. But, I mean, most people do not think about it in the sense that it is really true. I was the kind of girl who would break up with someone cause I did not like the way they ate their food.. I guess it took the right person to come along to make me look past the things that annoyed me, or that I didn't like. So, no one is perfect, but someone can be perfect for you.

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
My grandma always told me to marry someone that could make me laugh because it was very important for when things don't always go right...She just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary so I guess she knows a few things :)Also..this is more of a quote that I've always loved, not really advice...but its-
'Don't worry about the world ending today..it's already tomorrow in Australia!'

When my Dad was in the hospital from his stroke a nurse told me...'No one on their death bed wishes they worked more.'

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
This is such a hard question because I have received a tremendous amount of advice over the years. The ones that stay in my mind:
If God brings you to it, he'll get you through it.
I don't if this is so much advice, but rather what I live by but:
Speak softly, and carry a big kick

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
The advice that has always comforted me is this:'Everything happens for a reason'
I like to think there are no accidents in life and also that we can learn from both the good experiences and the bad experiences in life.
Once, when I was going through a hard breakup, knowing that everything happens for a reason made me look to the future and realize that I would probably be better off in the end (even if I couldn't understand how back then). And I was. I met someone even better - my FH!!
(Of course it took YEARS for that to happen, but who's counting?)

My FH actually does NOT like this one
he says - someone should have the reasons by NOW & to let him know

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
'don't trust anyone. no one will ever give you something for nothing'.my father sat me down and told me this before i left for college. he didn't mean it in the literal sense - not to let anyone in - but it was a reminder to always be aware of people's motives and to choose my friends and mates carefully. i can't tell you how many times that piece of advice has rung in my head and gotten me out of potentially damaging situations...
i have one more saying that i love, but it's not quite a piece of advice - 'when the mind is strong, the body follows'. someone was carrying a sign with this message during a marathon that i was running. it definitely helped me to the finish line, and has gotten me through many an overnight call too...
great thread, deb. i LOVE reading everyone's thoughts

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
From my dad - it always come down to the people you love in your life. When all else fails, the people in your life who love you are all what matter. In the end, when it is our time to leave this earth, the love you gave and received remains with you.

Re: QOTD: Best advice you have ever received.
Here is my contribution.......
'Never judge anyone. Put yourself in their shoes first and then think again if you are able to judge them the way you wanted it to in the first place.'
'God does not send you anything that you cannot handle'
'When the right time comes, you will make the decision'.
'Things always happen for a reason'. We might not see it the good right away but there is always something good in every situation if we realized that we may not have all the information that we need even though at that time we think we do'.
And my favorite ones....'There are NO coincidences'., 'Laugh, Love and Live', 'Always stay positive'
