Jericho Terrace Oak Room
Hi,I'm hoping you wonderful brides-to-be (or brides) can help me.
We are booked for JT next May and have a guarantee of 100. However, it seems that we will have closer to 120 guests and now the size of the room is freaking me out. Has anyone been to a reception in the Oak Room? It is the one downstairs with the big wood doors and the 'al fresco' paintings on the walls. Fiance and I are thinking it's too small and need to know if we should move it up to the Skylight Room (Dome Room is taken) but problem is a) Skylight Room has a 140 pp guanrantee b) ceilings are low on the sides of the Skylight Room.
Help...Thanks!

Re: Jericho Terrace Oak Room
We were originally scheduled to have 100 guarenteed in the Oak Room, but as we did our guest list it kept growing and growing and growing (mostly family members not wanting to offend anyone...so we had a lot of unexpected guests). We ended up going to our BM about 3 months before the wedding in an absolute panic that we had close to 150 guests! He was great - he looked and saw that the Penthouse was not booked yet and said we could either book it there and then for 175 guarenteed or wait until even closer to the wedding and if it was still not booked, he would let us do 150 guarenteed.
We decided to wait because what were the chances of someone booking a room less than 3 months before their wedding. It was a risk - but we did not want to have a 175 guarentee and pay for 15 people that were not there. It did not book, so we got the bigger room for only 150 guarenteed.
Long story - sorry - but my bottom line would be to perhaps wait closer to your wedding date and approach them about a lower guarentee if the room is still not booked.
Also keep in mind, our wedding was on a Sunday afternoon, not a popular time to have a wedding, so we were not as concerned about it booking. If your date is a Saturday, you may want to consider booking now.
Good luck!

Re: Jericho Terrace Oak Room
Hi,Thanks for replying...
Which is the Penthouse room? I saw the Oak, the Skylight (where they do ceremonies) and the Dome (upstairs with the Dome in the center
) but was not shown the 'penthouse room'. Can you tell me which one it is?I spoke to Mike and he said what your BM said, right now the Dome is booked but the Skylight is not and if it's not booked from here until then he'll give it to us for a lower guarantee. Our wedding is on a Friday night and I haven't seen too many brides with our date, I just hope we don't lose the option. My fiance said he would pay now for peace of mind, but you know guys always worry excesively (or is that us?...LOL). I don't want to guarantee 140 when I will have 120 tops...we go for a tasting tomorrow, I guess I'll speak to Mike then. How close to the date should I wait?
Any other tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Jericho Terrace Oak Room
The penthouse room is upstairs next to the dome room. I think they usually have minimums at 175-200, so that might be why they did not show you that room.We had our ceremony in the skylight room and it was beautiful.
We were not able to get the lower minimum until about 1 1/2 months before the wedding....it was nerve wracking, but at the same time we were really pushing our budget with 150, moreless 175! So we decided to wait it out and it worked out.
It is really about peace of mind at this point...if you're willing to live in limbo for another few months (plus, you could always have more no's than expected...) then I would say to wait, but if your FH will be excessively worrying (that was me....) then maybe it is worth the extra $$. Also it is a matter of which room you love more!
If you need anymore info you can FM me if you'd like.
Good luck

Re: Jericho Terrace Oak Room
Maybe when you go tomorrow you could talk to them about booking the 140 person room and ask them if they would be willing to throw in extras if you don't meet the minimum. Are you inviting 120 people?? Because if you are only inviting 120, I think you'll be fine with the smaller 100 person room because you will get some no's. Good Luck, I hope everything works out for you!!
ETA- you are getting married on Memorial day weekend, so you will probabaly get some people that will be away. Just remember that!!

Re: Jericho Terrace Oak Room
Thanks muchly for the response. I spoke to Mike (I swear, I harrass that man!) and he said that he'll show me the rooms tomorrow. He really is wonderful, he also said that he doesn't want me to worry about the room but it sounds like I'm already worried...LOL, he's gotten to know me well in such a short period of time! And yes, there is another room, the Penthouse Room, he just didn't show it to me because I had such a small guarantee. Thanks so much girls!
