My cat has gone crazy...help!

My kitty, Lily, is just over 2 years old. She has always been great at night - always went to her bed and slept the whole night except for the occasional food break. Well, the last two weeks straight she has been waking up at 4 or 5 in the morning and going absolutely crazy for hours! she runs around the apartment at top speed, pushes things off tables so they crash on the floor, jumps on the bed and attacks us!! I think our neighbors are about to hurt us. Nothing has changed...can anyone give me some advice?? I'm losing so much sleep... Of course DH sleeps though the entire episode...

TIA!
Lisa

Re: My cat has gone crazy...help!

Terrible Twos???

Seriously, though .. I don't know why cats go through these kinds of phases .. hopefully for you, it passes quickly.

Can you try to keep your kitty confined to one specific room at night??? Maybe even a room that's not yours .. so when/if she does go crazy, she won't be able to attack you.

Our boy usually will spend the night at the foot of our bed .. however, when he's fresh and bites at someone's feet .. that's it .. not second chances, he's sent immediately out of the room and the door is closed. We're fortunate enough that in our house, we have a spare bedroom that's his .. so when he's kicked out, he'll eventually end up falling asleep on 'his' futon .. and that's where we find him in the morning.

Re: My cat has gone crazy...help!

Our cats used to do that when they were younger, we had to lock them up at night so we can get a decent night sleep. They're almost 6 years old now and have definitely mellowed out now.

Re: My cat has gone crazy...help!

Our cat Joe is 8 years old and has nights where he does similar things. Just the other night he was up from 1AM on. I find spraying him with a water bottle helps. And even at times just showing him the bottle gets him to stop what he is doing. He is a yeller and will meow and yell which is how he wakes us up alot. But the water bottle does help. The following night after he got sprayed he slept the whole night. Good luck!!!

My cat is just over two also and goes through phases, durig the summer we could not get him into his bed - he sleep all day and wake up about 10PM and start going crazy, clawing at the rug, running full speed, knocking stuff off tables (soda cans, tops, coins)...now he is back to falling asleep the whole night in his bed.....still sleeps all day too...

My DH gets up at 5AM so sometimes we have a problem on the weekends at that time...he jumps on the end tables and swipes at our feet, but we just throw him out of the room...we feel if we get up just to feed him he will think he can do it even earlier...

I think its just a phase...and they do mellow out when they get older....you'll probably miss these days!!

Re: My cat has gone crazy...help!

It definitely all depends on the individual.

I can not use a water bottle on our cat. He simply does not care .. so I stopped shortly after trying it.

As for the age of the cat .. well .. our guy will be 8 in a couple of months .. and he still has bad stretches of getting the boot from the room at night.

He's actually been pretty rowdy recently .. I'm thinking maybe the weather change has something to do with it .. the cold, brisk air .. even though he's an indoor cat .. he just been full of energy!
