OMG - I just checked out that page... and the doc that delivered Emma wasnt board certified... only one doc in my practice is board certified. They are all NYS licensed but only 1 is board cert.
Is that bad??

What Board Certification Means:
The kind of specialized training a doctor has had in treating your condition does matter. Board certification is a credential or an acknowledgment of expertise that the doctor has taken and passed a test on a fundamental body of knowledge. Look for 'board certification' in oncology or another specialty related to your condition when you are seeking a well-trained physician. This is a prerequisite.

If a doctor is a member of a medical specialty society and has board certification, the doctor may have additional letters following his or her name (an example would be John Doe, MD, FACS, meaning Dr. Doe is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons).

This additional certification assures you that the doctor has demonstrated expertise in a specialty area. Not every doctor has board certification. A doctor who does not have board certification may not have taken the 'boards' — the certification test. Or may have taken it and failed. In either case, it says the doctor hasn't done his or her homework and didn't have certain organizational and intellectual skills to pass the test. However, doctors can be excellent caregivers without board certification.


I don't think my doctor is Board Certified either..

But this website is not totally up to date. It says my doctor is still practicing in Rochester NY.

I go to see one of the non BC docs on the 22nd and I am going to ask her about it. If the website is accurate then I may schedule my repeat C and have the one who IS BC deliver this baby... for peace of mind!
