need help giving a wedding gift...the couple already plans on getting married again...
HELP!In a couple weeks, one of our best men will be getting married. It will be a civil ceremony, followed by dinner at a restaurant.
They plan on having a big wedding next year, but there are no plans as of now.
For our wedding, the best man put out a bunch of money for DH's bachelor party (I don't know how much for sure, but I'm guessing in the area of $200-$400). He also did a lot to help us out with regard to driving us to the airport, returning the tuxes, decorating our car, etc, etc. He was our witness on our marriage license. He really did a lot to help us.
For my shower, his girlfriend gave me a $45 gift. For the wedding, they gave us $100.
They keep saying that this really isn't the 'big wedding' and that they want to have a big wedding at some point...
But, I have another friend who did the same thing, and he never did have that big wedding...I always felt bad because I only gave him a small gift, expecting to give more at his 'big wedding,' which never happened...

I would probably give $150 for the restaurant wedding and another $200 or so (based on what you can afford) for their bg wedding. If they wind up skipping the big reception, get them a nice gift next Christmas.

I would give $200 - $250 now. If in the future he decides to have the big wedding give a small gift. Its not the kind of party he has its the occasion and since this is his 'real wedding' and money is obviously tight I would give the more generous gift now.

i would give them more now and something smaller at the wedding later - just in case they don't have the big wedding and if they do it will halp to pay for the wedding

I agree--I would give $200 now--even if you give $200 more later, it still sounds like he spent more for your wedding planning, etc...

I would give $200-$300 now, which will also help them prepare for the big wedding later on if they have it. If they DO have a big wedding later on, get them a small gift from their registry, or something like that.Welcome New Vendors
