The non-profit I work for is in Hempstead, but I just wanted to say that I think it's great that you are looking to do something good with your time off.

There are loads of non-profits in Suffolk, maybe check out your local hospitals.

I think they are right by my house too. I will look into that and the web site. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

The teen suicide hotline it think it's called response is in desprate need of hotline counselors. Also LIAAC needs volunteers for thier food pantry. There are many other places like Family Service League, VIBs, LIGALY, Little Flower just to name a few that you can try also Light House mission. There is also a place that you can become a volunteer court advocate for a child in foster care in suffolk county.

Pediatric Ward? That's something I would love doing. Do you know if they take people on the weekends also?

I work at Stony Brook Univ Hospital and I gotta say there are a ton of volunteer opportunities here. You can always do the Pediatric playroom which someone suggested.

Good place :)

Any hospital or Nursing Home always needs help. I work at St Catherines Nursing Home and they always could use volunteers.

Yes! I used to go in on the weekends... I would get the key and open the place up... before I was 'trusted' to do that, I had to work during the week first to prove myself to the lady in charge... but i was also just in HS... and things might have changed since then!!

All of the animal shelters need volunteers to go and socialize with the animals to help them become more adoptable. You get to walk and play with them.
