Hawaii...Big Island or Oahu

Debating on going to the Big Island of Hawaii or Oahu? I am also going to Maul and Kauai as well. Any suggestion on one or the other?

Big Island for sure. On the Big Island you can see the black sand beaches, it's less crowded and just hands down a more amazing experience than Oahu. Oahu is very commercial and there's really nothing you can see there that you won't be able to do while at the other islands. I guess going to Oahu would be akin to going to Times Square here in NYC...

I went to both.
I would recommend the Big Island (especially if you are going to see Volcano National Park).

The two things that are causing my confussion are the volcanoes VS pearl harbor.

We went to Oahu for two nights, just to see Pearl Harbor and climb Diamondhead. We also wanted to go to the Dole Pineapple Plantation, but didn't have time. I'm glad we went to Pearl Harbor, but I wish that we had gone to Big Island to see the volcanoes....maybe next time.

I was thinking the same thing se we decided to go to oahu, maui and the big island. i haven't been there yet, but i feel that maui and kauai would be similar.

Both maui and kauai are suppose to be beautiful. I really want to go to both so now i have to pick the 3rd place, hawaii or oahu.

We stayed in Oahu in Waikiki. It was nice, but too city like if you are looking for more of a beachy paradise. Pearl Harbor is nice, and really interesting, but only a day trip. You can take Island Hopper flights from one island or another.

We did a cruise, so we saw lots of islands.

We went to Hilo and Kona (both on the Big Island) you should know that Hilo is the rainy side of the island and Kona is the sunny side. No one told me that, but we were only there for a day trip. It's a good mix of towns and beaches, but I wasn't overly impressed. You may get better info from girls who stayed there for a while.

We went to Kauai, which is IMO the most beautiful of the islands, but VERY secluded. If you are looking for picturesque and seclusion, that's the one I would go for.

But Maui to me had the best balance of scenery, beautiful beaches, shopping, snorkeling, and active activities (bike ride from volcano to the beach, helicopter tours, catamaran's) of all. DH and I agreed that we would definitely pick Maui if we were to go back and stay in one place. Our best friends stayed there for 2 weeks and didn't feel the need to go to any of the other islands.

sounds like you had a blast. I hear only good things about Maui, i cant wait. I want to do the bike ride from volcano to the beach too. I heard it is amazing. Thanks for the advice.
