is the gift registry for the bridal shower or the wedding or both? i dont really want to have a registry for the wedding, because we would rather cash instead... What have you all done? is it better to have it for the wedding too? thanks

Re: gift registry

I started registering in Sept 03. My Shower turned out to be in Jan 04 and the Wedding - May 04.

Yes, I registered for my shower. By the time your shower comes there might not be any things left on your registry.

And anyway most people give monetary gifts at Weddings.

Re: gift registry

It is my understanding that the registry is for any engagement party or gifts and for your shower. I think most people know to give cast at the wedding.

Re: gift registry

spread the word through family that you would rather cash at the wedding - it will catch on. Gifts are mainly for the shower, but there are always people who will show up at the wedding with a blender (one that you didn't even register for!) in tow...

Re: gift registry

I kept making adjustments to the registry online, so if you don't want to get registry gifts as wedding gifts, you can always remove a bunch of stuff after your shower. One warning, guests outside the NY metro area generally do NOT give cash (and generally do not spend as much), so you might want to leave some stuff on the registry for them to choose from.
