are any of you ready to have a baby but Dh isn't?

I really feel ready to start TTC. I have the baby bug really badly and I know nothing could make me, and DH, happier than having a child. If it were up to DH we would probably wait 2 years, but he realizes that I will never be ok with that so we said we'll start trying after a year of marriage. Now here's the problem... I know it may sounds selfish, but I don't want to wait. I'm also afraid that a year is going to go by and he's going to start making excuses and postponing it.
He says he just wants to live married life for a while, but that's BS. We've been together for 9 years and have been living together for over 3. So as you can see just by that, DH likes to buy himself as much time as possible for making a big decision.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: are any of you ready to have a baby but Dh isn't?

for awhile we did. He kept saying we're not ready, we should move first (which seems like will never happen), blah blah blah. So then I left it alone and figured when he's ready he'll come to me. He knows I'm ready NOW!

But lately he's been talkin a lot of baby stuff. We were in the store and I said 'Oh we need more condoms' and he looked at them, then just walked on. Then he joked about making a baby on Christmas. Then yesterday he says 'when we start trying I don't want to tell anyone we're trying, and don't want to tell anyone when we are pregnant until we get the doctors say so. I just decided that now'

So it looks like he's thinking more about it and (hopefully) might be ready soon. I think he's in the 'if it happens it happens' mode now. Then eventually we'll actively start.

From what I know from friends , family etc..men are the last ones to know they are ready..no offense against men..but they are kind of slow learners

We had that problem for a bit. I was ready pretty much right after the wedding and he wanted to wait 1-2 year. I let it go for awhile, but then we were around a lot of babies and he seemed more into the idea. Eventually he came around. Our 1st anniversary is 1/10 and I will be 9.5 weeks then (knock wood).

Well DH won't let himself hold babies anymore because he knows he'll get bit by the baby bug and he's trying to fight it. Whenever he's around babies he just lights up. I know he wants one, but he's afraid, and I can certainly understand that. I just think having a baby will be scary no matter how long we do or do not wait. It's something we will handle together and I know everything will be fine.

I think you should both be ready. I think that is important. My DH was ready the day we got married. I was more practical about it. We decided to wait and get settled and enjoy married life. Took some great trips and have done lots of things that would be hard if we had a baby. Now we have one on the way and I feel really good about it and he is happy we waited. Your DH will come around.

Unfortunately, its the other way around for me. DH wants a baby so badly but I'm not ready yet. I want to be in a house first and travel a bit more. I really thought it would be the opposite way aroung since he is a few years younger than me.

Same here my husband wants a baby so bad I am just not ready to take that step. Having a baby is a big responsibility. I am still in grad school although I will be done this year, I can't not afford a babyright now. Our job status needs to get better. But if it happens I would love my child regardless.

Re: are any of you ready to have a baby but Dh isn't?

Actually I have the opposite situation. DH is ready to have a baby and I'm just not were I would like to be in my career yet ( I don't know if that is a good reason though) so I would like to wait another six months.

Same here! DH was talking about having a baby by our third date! After about 1 year of dating, he kept talking and talking and talking about it, so to put him off, I told him, when you get me a ring, I'll give you a baby. I really didn't think he took me seriously, but apparently he did, because 2 months later (1 year and 2 months after we met!) he proposed! From that day on, he kept saying, so where's my baby???

Re: are any of you ready to have a baby but Dh isn't?

My DH and I have been together 11.5 years. We got married on our 9 year anniv. in Aug. 2002, and then that April we started TTC. I wanted a baby for years, but of course DH wasn't ready. It took some convincing, but now we have a beautiful almost 1 year old boy.

My next dilema, is that I want another baby already!!! I've got baby fever sooo bad again. I know part of it is because my baby is going to be 1 already... (which I can't believe), and the other part is because I just love being a mom, and I just love my son soooo much, I want to do it all over again. But, of course my DH is not ready. Well, we're not ready because of financial reasons. We just can't afford 2 daycares right now. I believe that if we had the money we would have another one soon. I'm still trying to figure out a way!

I wish I knew what it was like for my DH to be begging me for a baby!
