Need Advice-Interview with Priest to Set up Wedding Date

Hi All-

My FI and I are meeting with the priest in my parish tomorrow night for an interview prior to setting up a wedding date.

I am a little nervous because the priest was a little obnoxious to me on the phone.

What kinds of questions should we expect during the interview????

I was very nervous about this as well before we met with our priest. I attached an old post that I started a while ago...it is kind of related to this....hope it helps.

He asked us why we want to get married, what our families are like and the role we play in our families. He asked why we want to get married in a church. He was very cool about it...he put me at ease a lot.

We have only met with him once, to reserve the date and give him our information. He wants to see us again (I think a couple more times) after we do pre-cana.

Thanks so much! That did help. I guess every parish and priest is different.

I was just so put off by this priest when I spoke to him on the phone.

He should be happy that we want to get married in a church!

I agree that with the state of the church these days they should be a little nicer to young people who are still interested in getting married in church.

We were nervous too...they asked us very simples questions.
Why did we want to get married in the church? Would be raise our children in the church? Were we related?!?! Etc..IT was fast and NOT stressful as we had expected it to be...Dont worry!!

I was SO SCARED.. I heard horror stories of getting guilt trips and so on but our preist was awesome and didnt even ask if we attend church regulary or anything

My FI isn't worried but I am. I am a worrier to start with and it is my parish. My FI is very laid back with everything.

I think each priest/parish hs different ways of interviewing the couples. The priest I spoke with was fantastic. He only asked us a few questions, and they were pretty much yes or no answers. I have heard of some parishes that have the couple fill out sort of an inventory to see where you may have some trouble down the road...I was worried too...but it's not bad and once you're finished you'll feel so much better!

Oh yeah...the priest will also ask you if you want a full mass or a blessing

My FI and I had our interview tonight and it actually went really well. The priest was awesome...he had us laughing the whole time. He was very down to earth.

It's funny b/c my fh called the priest to set up the wedding date and he didn't say anything about meeting with us but he did ask ?'s though like:
Are u brother and sister?
Where either of u a priest or nun?
Were either of u ever married before?

I kinda thought it was weird that he didn't want to meet with us and also fh was told that it was a lil early to call when my wedding is 9/06 and he sadi to call 6 months before..I'm just hopeing that he wrote down the correct date.

We had a whole interview...and he had to fill out a questionnaire...

Here are a few I remember ....
If we were there freely and not against our will...
If we plan to enter into a marriage understanding that we are to be faithful to each other....

And a few other questions and then we both had to sign the paper he filled out.

Then he asked us what date we wanted. We told him Sunday July 16th and then he said that he didn't think they were doing Sunday weddings anymore....so I started to FREAK OUT. But then he made a phone call and he finally said it was ok.
