Re: Need ideas for a not too expensive weekend getaway!

I know No Stress Bride posted this in the Newlywed board and she got some good ideas. Mine for her were:
Boston
Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods
Mystic, CT
Newport, RI
Cooperstown
Ski weekend?

ooh..good ideas! Thank you!

Is there anything to do at foxwoods or mohegan sun besides gambling? I've never been there!

Re: Need ideas for a not too expensive weekend getaway!

Cooperstown is a little boring....the museum is really nice, but it's a couple hours, then you're left with nothing to do.

I wasn't a huge fan of Mohegan Sun - it's SO smokey and I'm not so much of a gambler, it's more of a 1 day thing.

My vote goes to Boston - there is so much to see, so much history, awesome restaurants, some GREAT shopping, and the trip isn't too long - I'm in Suffolk and when I've gone to Boston, I've taken the car on the PJ Ferry up to CT, then drive the rest of the way - it's so much faster than going all the way around! You'll love Boston!

ETA: what about Washington DC? It's a little bit warmer than Boston at this time of year!

I think they have some cute shops and you can walk around Mystic, CT which is not too far by car. Its a cute town and you can visit the Mystic Pizza restaurant and see some of the shops.

Re: Need ideas for a not too expensive weekend getaway!

We just got back from the Norwich Inn Spa and Hotel and it was fantastic!

It is one mile away from Mohegan Sun casino and 10 miles away from Foxwoods.
We took one day of our vacation, dedicated it to total spa treatments...the following day we spent in Mystic (went to the aquarium, checked out the beautiful town), then the other days we went to the casinos..both of them, and we walked around and shopped a lot.
There's definately a lot to do besides gambling, it was a great trip.

Let m know if you'd like more info about the inn...we stayed in a villa (had a kitchen, fireplace, etc..was nice because it was away from the main building, very romantic).

True Boston is the best because there is the most to do there. Great shopping and touring and you can always visit historical Concord too.

Re: Need ideas for a not too expensive weekend getaway!

Newport is great. They have cute shops and restaurants too and you can see the mansions. If its not too cold and you are up to it, you can go on the Cliff Walk. Its so pretty!
