A walk in the park . . .tell me about your first experiences walking your pups!

Hi everyone!
Just curious! Now that he's fully vaccinated, we took Golem for his very first walk around our neighborhood yesterday. . . What a workout!!!! He wasn't going nuts, but he did want to stop and snif every single new blade of grass and eat all the new rocks on the sidewalk as we walked! :) We can control him, he's just very interested and excited the whole time, so the leash is giving us blisters on our hands from the constant correction! He was really good though, considering it was his fiorst time walking outside the backyard! He would trot along side of us for a few minutes until he realized that something NEW was over thenre so every once in a while he'd try to lunge away. I love him using up all that energy on the walks though, he hardly nipped at us all night, and he slept like a champ!! It's a big world out there, tuckered our little guy right out!

This is such a cute post.....I just thought about this the other day - I was taking Casey out very early in the morning and a flock of geese flew overhead and of course made a lot of noise squawking - she looked up and waited and watched them until they were out of site. I remember the first time she saw a squirrel too and the first time I took her out in the rain and then the snow...and I realized that she is seeing so many things for the the first time in her life I am such a mushy mommy!

Bama freaked out when we first put the leash on him, but once he got used to it, he did just what Golem did - he wanted to sniff evvvvverything. He had to check out every leaf, eat pebbles, he'd dart in one direction and then another direction. He almost pulled me into a stop sign once

Have fun walking Golem! He's going to be a big boy so I hope he learns to heel for you

Re: A walk in the park . . .tell me about your first experiences walking your pups!

thanks for sharing these stories! :) We've had Golem on leash since the day we brought him home, just to get him used to it - so he isn't distracted by that anymore - But the sidewalk is a new and interesting place for him so he's curious about everything! He's actually very good about following our lead - we've already taught him Heel, so I'm sure once he gets used to all the new sights and sounds of our neighboorhood he'll be much calmer on these walks. I took him for a walk last night after I got home from work, and he did very well, any pulling was corrected and he seemed to get the hint - then forgot a few seconds later when he smelled something new Right now we just have the chain link collar on him and that seems to be working very well on our walks. I really like these little nightly workouts now!
