Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
We were discussing Valentine's day. I figured we should lay low since we were planning on buying a house and we just paid for a wedding. DH feels it should be special, since it is our first as husband & wife. I agree and now I feel bad that I said what I said at all.I feel like we are always buying jewlery...which is always good! I LOVE every piece he's bought. But, between my E ring and Wedding band, the ring and diamond watch he got me on our honeymoon, and the diamond pendant I just got for Crismicka...do I really need a NEW piece of jewlery now? I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I appreciate and adore all of the pieces, but I feel like it could become Overkill??!!
I'd love to hear what you are doing/buying for Valentine's Day this year.
TIA

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
We are saving money because we are waiting to go to contract on a house. We will be sitting home eating macaroni and cheese( money saver), by candelight (electric saver), bundled up (can't raise the heat, gas prices are too high) and reading to each other (free).

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
We might recreate our first Valentine's Day together when we were in Paris. We were so tired from sightseeing all day that instead of going to a nice restaurant, we bought two baquettes, a jar of Nutella and a bottle of French Coke at the Supermarche down the street from the hotel and we ate that for dinner in our room. We stayed in and it was so romantic and fun and we were so glad we didn't try to find a restaurant. So while we won't be getting to Paris, we might go to a French bakery and get baquettes, go to the supermarket and buy Nutella and drink Coke with it.

1) Yes you do need a new piece of jewelry.
2) It will not become overkill.
IMO!!!
Do it now while you still can---if you're desperate for cash in the future, you can always sell your stuff...Gold is very high right now...It will be high again.

IMO I also have too much jewelry. I would rather have an experience--a weekend away, or tix to a show with DH than another necklace I will rarely wear! We are buying small gifts ($100 or less), then spending on our trip to Vegas in March!

agree on jewelry ... I don't even have a lot but I don't wear anything but my rings and a pair of studs that I occasionally swap out for diamond hoops. I wear my tennis bracelet on special occasions too. Anymore would be a total WASTE to me.

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
We never go out to dinner on V Day anymore. Last time we went, it was a couple years ago, and the restaurant manager was REALLY rude to us, and we had to wait and wait and wait because he overbooked the place. And, it really did ruin our Valentine's Day.Last year, we bought our furniture and were happy about that.
This year, we will probably stay in and cook for each other. Not sure about gifts yet...

We'll probably go out to dinner (the Sat before 'cause V-Day is on a Mon)But as for gifts, I'm not sure. Ususally dinner was my gift to him. And his gift to me is my Birthday gift

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
I totally forgot about V-day coming up! Thanks for the reminder! I really want to do something special to as our 'first Valentines as Married couple-we can't let the flame of passion flicker out'. So I guess I'll cook up a really special dinner, maybe Lobsters, our favorite, wine, candelight, me in a slinky sexy outfit, and just chilllllll at home. Maybe I'll do the candles and rose petals in the bedroom or in the bathtub.

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
we only get cards for each other and eat take out....V-day is when we first started talking/met in 2002, but it was the day DH buried his grandmother. Our first one, I was sick, so DH got Applebee's take out (it's where we first really met/talked), and last year it was right before the wedding, so we did Applebee's again!
He always gets a card and a small stuffed animal for me.....unfortunately, it's more about remembering his grandma which hurts him terribly.
This year, we may do the same thing.

My deepest sympathies. It still sounds like you have a touch of romance there...even with the situation. How are things going w/TTC?

Thank You!! Each year gets a little easier, but we also don't like 'celebrating our romance' on some specified day! So commercialized!
AS far as TTC goes....we are still waiting for my hormone levels to hit zero again...Monday will be 4 weeks and I'm still spotting. Blech.....there goes my romance!

You are hysterical, that is so funny!
ETA: We usually stay in and make lobster and chocolate covered strawberries. So, we'll see.

Re: Our First Valentine's Day as a married couple...
I bought a chocolate fondue pot over the hoildays that looks like a herskey kiss, we are going to take that out probably that night and DH I think got me earrings- I am buying him some DVD's that he wants. I am not sure about going out to dinner yet, I hate it when the restaurants are so busy on the holidays it kind of takes away from the atmosphere, we will probably bring in Outback or Chinese food.Welcome New Vendors
