Can you explain the photography to me... Do you pay upfront for the amount of pics youre getting?
I dont understand exactly what some of you are talking about. You say you pay a certain amount and then want more pics and go over?? Can you usually buy the proofs?
I know I need to meet with someone but I have a 3 year old and am in grad school full time and working full time and planning this wedding is making my head spin already!!!! Help me.. Photographers are not willing to talk online.. they all want me to come in..

1. Relax it will be fine.. 2. No they most likely won't talk to you online, they want to show you their work in person...you should NEVER book anyone "online". 3. Once you have chosen your photographer and the package you want..usually there are payments you have to make...about a week before the wedding you should have paid of a majority of your balance. I had about 1000 left which i had to pay when i got the proofs back.
4. Most photo packages include the proofs..if they don't i would reconsider the photographer

Re: Can you explain the photography to me... Do you pay upfront for the amount of pics youre getting?
Wow! You're a busy girl! The BEST way to get your questions answered of course is to meet with a few photographers.
But I can tell you what I'm paying for with my photographer. My photographer is Twelfth Night Photo. The gentleman in charge is named Dominic. Great guy, very professional, laid back, and listens.
I am paying for one of his packages which includes a combination of digital and film, CD with pix and music on it, proofs and negatives. My total package is about $1,500. IF I want him to do an album based on all of the photos he's taken, I will then pay him for the album(s) I want. If not, I can make my own (by ordering pix from shutterfly and setting up my own album).
So you pay based on whatever package you pick, and most photographers have packages. I liked Twelfth Night because they have a lot of experience and don't lock you into purchasing an album. BUT, most photographers have packages that include albums, and you can modify them as you need to (some brides for example don't need grandparent albums, etc.)
Check out Twelfth Night, also check out Duet who I understand is very popular. I'm going to recommend someone else too. Camelot Studios. BEAUTIFUL work; I didn't go with them only because I couldn't afford them.
All the best!

Re: Can you explain the photography to me... Do you pay upfront for the amount of pics youre getting?
Well $$ IS an issue for me. Big issue - because well.... hmmm.. I dont have any LOL!!!
O.k. its not that funny. My family is amazing at photography but dont want to HAVE to take pics, (but I know they will) If you buy the proofs can you scan them into your computer so I can send them around on email or do they have wording on the fronts? I dont need an album - I can make my own - just the pics. I like black and white, photojournalism and my family is very talented at making the videos with the music behind it... I guess I shouldnt be that concerned.
So 12th night seems pretty cheap? Maybe Ill check them out. Im going to put disposbles on each table too and then Ill just scan the pics in and work on them in Adobe, crop, resize, fix red eye etc...
Besides Im sure my mom will be with her camera at all times anyway... Thanks girls

To answer your question, I'm also using Twelfth Night and the way it works is that you pay 1/3 of the total package when you sign the contract, then 1/3 a few weeks before the wedding, the final 1/3 is due when I pick up the proofs (I also get ALL negatives). With Twelfth Night, albums are not included in the price (he actually wants you to save money and technology changes so what you like today might not be the "newest thing" tomorrow) he helps you put together your album after you have all your pics. What girls are referring to when they go over is that they pick an album up front with 60 pics in it, then they like too many of their pics and want to put 100 pics in it, they have to pay extra for that.
Good luck and don't stress - you have time!
