MY FH and i still haven't picked a reception hall---and we met on a NYC subway, so we're toying with the idea of having our party in the city.

Do you have any suggestions? Did you look on LI, too? That's where i started the reception hall search, and it doesnt seem like you get much bang for the buck.

i'd love to hear about your experience!

We met on April Fool's Day 1999 on the 1/9 subway and we're trying to book for 4.1.06--if i can find a place, that is!!!! LOL

I got married in NYC, but had my reception in LI. Not sure if that's helpful...

I got married and had my reception in Manhattan. Back when I was planning, i was the only Manhattan bride but Ive seen a few others pop up since. A lot of my vendors were based in Long Island so this board was a huge help to me. (not to mention all the girls and ideas, etc..)

I live in Manhattan and am familiar with a lot of vendors here.. We chose to get married on LI since we are both from there, and we fell in love with a reception site there. We looked in the city- but just didn't find what we were looking for.

We considered Manhattan but both of our families are on Long Island, and we could not justify the cost of having it in Manhattan. One piece of advice: Tavern on the Green seemed to have the best price of the places I checked in Manhattan, and a nice package. That really surprised me, so I figured that I should pass that info on to you!!!!

I am! I saw a lot of places both on LI and in the city, but wound up choosing a Manhattan venue.

what kind of venue are you looking for? Alot of girls on here, although getting married in LI, work and/or live in Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens and we would be happy to help!

I got married at the Water's Edge in Long Island City. It was a great place for us because my fam is from Long Island and my husband's is from New Jersey. Many of our relatives were former NYers so we wanted a place where they'd be able to stay in the City if they wanted to. The Water's Edge has a boat to take guests from Manhattan to the venue, so almost everyone stayed in Manhattan. It worked well.

I am! I am getting married at The Down Town Association. I somehow found the LI board and it's so helpful so I look at it sometimes. I only have a place and a dress so far - I still need to do everythign else. Tribeca Rooftop is great - I've been to a wedding there!

i got married in between manhattan and brooklyn. we had our ceremony on hte brooklyn bridge. you can't beat the view! afterwards we had our reception at soem chinese restaurant in hte city.
