What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

I want plain low centerpieces. Im thinking roses will smell nice, theyre simple and beautiful. I love the way they look when its just roses thrown in a vase bunched together. What do you think?

What do you think of using an online wholesale florist?

I have to have something to decorate the stands though during the ceremony...

Logistically how will you get it done? Will you do the flowers the evening before? Who will set it up at the hall? If you can take care of these arrangements, then it sounds as if you can do it.

Around how much are you trying to allocate towards flowers?

Definitely agree with Marc_Rai. If you have the help, someone to transport the flowers, etc. Go for it! And you can def keep it under $1K. If you're willing to pay $1K you can get a florist for that much. Try Jenn Blossoms.

Re: What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

I made my own centerpieces for my engagement party and it was a lot of work. I don't think I would have the mental ability to do it the week of the wedding...lol. It is a long process. I ordered from www.onlinewholesaleflowers.com

Here is the link to my eparty review with exactly how much I paid and how I did it. It is doable and you would save a ton but it might be too much to deal with the week of the wedding. Let me know if you need any help.

Re: What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

2 stories about that:

A friend of mine who is a florist by trade did his own wedding. It all came out great but he said it was too much work and too tiring. Then again, he really had tons of flowers, and he had to deal with everyone expecting that he, as a florist, would have great flowers.

My mom and my sister did the flowers for her wedding. They did it all ahead of time using silk flowers (no real flowers). It was not too difficult, it looked great and they had flowers that they could save. I love real flowers so I am not doing that even though hers were nice.

I think it would be a great idea if you can maybe hire or coerce someone into setting it all u for you. My cousin had a dozen cabbage roses in a vase and it was SO pretty, and then at the end of the wedding, the servers too the cp's away and wrpaped up the roses so every woman took home 3 roses. it was really a nice touch!

Re: What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

Trust me. This sounds good in theory, but in execution, it may not work. You will be overwhelmed as you get closer, and there will be so many other details to consider and remember, I think you should leave the flowers up to a florist. You can still have just roses if you want them. But how in the world would you arrange to get them into the vases and into the reception room late enough for them to still look fresh? It's chancey at best.

I am getting 13 centerpieces (roses plus other flowers), my bouquet, a MOH bouquet and a BM bouquet, boutennieres (sp?) for the guys and my total cost is only $1,500 - and I'm having my reception at the same place you are. I went to Pedestals right across the street from Jericho Terrace. Ask for Jay. He will definitely work with you if you're on a budget.

Re: What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

I went to a wedding last year where the bride and her attendants did the centerpieces the night before. She used 2 different colored roses and some baby's breath. Since there were 5 BM, and about 150 people (so, say 13 CPs) I don't think it took them that long to do it and they were fine centerpieces.

Just as a reminder, though, roses only have their natural fragrance when picked from the bush--florist roses don't have their real 'smell.' Good Luck!

Re: What do you think of doing my own centerpieces - glass vase with a dozen or 2 roses?

My only concern is that it would require a lot of work on your end the day of the wedding because you really couldn't prepare them in advanced.

I am making my own centerpieces, but they don't involve flowers. They need to be put together as they get put on the table, however the Caterering hall is going to put them together for me. I just have to show them how.

Would your caterering hall do that?
