Changing vendors... I'm now a DUET bride!
First, please forgive me if my spelling and grammar are off, I'm home with the flu. Some of you might remember my post from last Friday. Well, I have been having serious second thoughts regarding my photographer since we got the engagement proofs in early November. We got engaged while on vacation in Italy last summer and because I'm a teacher and we are both in our mid to late 30's the wedding had to be next summer. I got nervous that I'd be able to book good vendors and hit the ground running the day after I got off of the plane. I started calling everyone I knew who got married recently (some of my friends have been married 10 years so this was difficult) and it seems like all of my brother's friends used the same photographer. She is owner/operated which I liked but there was something gnawing at me after the engagement shoot. She's been shooting weddings for over twenty years and I think she's a bit burnt out.
Our engagement shoot seemed rushed and she never even asked us anything about ourselves. Our posses were very stiff and old-fashioned. When I got the proofs back my favorite pose of us (and I wasn't really loving it) had a flag pole in the background that looked like it was coming out of my head
I felt that that was something that a professional photographer should see the second she looks in the lense. I was very surprized considering she came so highly recommended and I looked at many albums she did.A co-worker of mine got married last July and she had the same photographer. I asked to see her proofs. I'm really picky as I have done a lot of amateur photography. In the meantime I kept seeing proofs from Duet on this site.... (thanks Julz33 and Jimmy'sbride) and they took my breathe away.
Finally, I posted about my problem and divabride and ckgmwedding really helped me out. I got an appointment with Duet the same day and I changed. Yes, I'll be out a deposit but actually we are getting A LOT more for our money from Duet. For the same price a better album, at least double the # of proofs and 3 DVD's and a 10 hour shoot versus 8. Eric actually wanted to redo our engagement shoot for us so that we'd have confidence in their company.
So girls and guys, if you have a bad feeling about one of your vendors... listen to your gut and switch. Our intuition is there for a reason. I was a crazy nut thinking about this for months and while yes, I lost some of my own money (and I do not part easily with money
) in the end what's more important?I think all of the stress from this really did bring on the flu but it will be worth it in the end.
