how old is too old to be in a bridal party?
We are in our early thirties getting married and my 3 sisters will all be in there 40's. 40, 45, 46 to be exact. I was thinking of skipping the bridal party all together and just having a MOH & BM. My one sister would be insulted if I just had friends in the bridal party so I've ruled out that option. I'm afraid an older bridal party will look ridiculous but I'm also afraid it will be too bare looking without one.Opinions?

I would put whoever I wanted in my BP regardless of age, looks, or size. Your BP should consist of people close to you that will be there in the future and that you truly want to share that day with.If you feel you want that with your sisters, I would ask them regardless of their age and let THEM decide whether or not they 'feel too old' to be a BM (it's possible they might but my guess is they'll be up for it). Age shouldn't really matter in this decision... just think of whose faces you want to see smiling back at you in your wedding pictures....that's who should be in your BP.
(PS - if you have a MOH & a BM, that's still a BP, IMO)

I don't think age matters at all.

Some of mine are in their late 30's. To me, the people in your BP are the people closest to you and age shouldn't be a factor.

I think you can do whatever you want.. I would approach your wedding party look and duties- with taking into consideration everyone's age..For example- don't get dresses that are traditional bridesmaids dresses, have them do readings or other tasks that weave them into the ceremony, etc.
It's still your day and you should be surrounded (literally) with the people you want to be-- who cares how old everyone is!

I'd say ask your sisters. Some women feel they are too old to deal with all the bp stuff, but your sister may want to do it.Don't worry about how it looks. My uncle was 30 when he got married, his wife was 21. They just had a BM & MOH. The BM was my dad, he was 40 & his wife had her aunt, who was probably about the same.

I don't necessarily know what to do in your situation, but in my own I've decided to ask my 'older' friends to participate in other ways (readers). I have 2 close friends who are approaching 40, and I just don't think they would want to be 'bothered' with the responsibilities of being in the BP. I plan to speak with them frankly about this, and give them an option. Also, for me, one lives far away, and the other has 4 kids- - - I think they'd both be appreciative of NOT being burdened with the responsibilities.

My matron of honor is in her 50's. She's like a second mom to me and I really wanted her to be part of the wedding. She won't be wearing the same thing as my BM's who are in their 20's. She's really excited about it!So, age doesn't matter in my opinion, its who you want there with you on your day and the days leading up to it.
