Had my first bad vendor experience...

Ok...so it's a sad night.

Went to a photographer. I called them last week and they were nice on the phone. Went there tonight and the guy was so nasty!

To be fair, they don't specialize in 'non-package' type of services. I want to basically pick and choose what I want and have the option for other stuff later if I can't do it myself. Being that I plan events and feel comfortable with digital pics, I am confident that I can make parent's albums with 50 pics for less than what they would charge!!!

However, he DOES offer a basic option. But as soon as you say 'I want the basic package' he told me the following:

1. You need to book immediately. Your wedding is booking fast.

2. You need to get your DJ asap...what is this to you?

He tells me that he 'customizes' packages for girls but he won't for me (I say, Can you give me a package with 2 parent albums, all my proofs and a CD - he says no). No price list. Tells me that these prices are effective for right now - but not tomorrow. Changes the cost of one package in 30 seconds. Talks down to me. I was writing things down in my book and he was like 'Why don't you put this in your book'...Umm, that doesn't fly with me.

If it wasn't for my nice mother sitting next to me, I would have gotten up to leave. I watched the Video just to waste his time (and I was curious if it was good) but he was looking at the next couple the whole time.

So sad! It's one thing if they don't offer exactly what you are looking for - but don't make me an appt if you aren't willing to work with me and give me crazy prices!

It's crazy - for the catering halls, they were all over me...and a couple of vendors that I have talked to have been really awesome. I am so concerned with flowers --- it's my personal obsession...and the florists have been dead-on terrific.

Photography for me is important, but I am not into the albums. I LOVE digital albums but can't afford it right now. Maybe in a year from now or maybe I can design it myself (I have some limited knowledge!).

No matter what...no need to be rude! He knew that I shut down about 3 minutes into the conversation. He was surprised I wanted to see his video and perplexed that I wanted his quote sheet since 'I wrote everything in my little book!'

I have to preface this by saying that he told me last week to bring my 'MOH or Mother' since my fiance wouldn't be there. Yeah, last I checked it was 2005 and I make money too! So thanks.

UGH! VENT!!!

On the flip side...I got some great quotes on flowers...and this CP is my new obsession. I am all about tulips right now!

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

leese, I know what you are saying...There are some obnoxious vendors out there that don't really care about you $$ situation & just are looking for the sale..

Keep your head up! like we have said before, if you do not click with the person when you first meet them, there is no way you can deal with them for the next 12 months & plus that day...Get the most for your $$ value

Flowers I know are your obsession! I like your new centerpiece idea...It is very pretty...I love tulips too & my cousin told me that is what I should go with bc they are in season...I happen to like the roses better though on centerpieces, but that is me

I am going to do something similar though, the centerpiece that i posted with some votives & rose petals!

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

kissy - i KNOW...FH told me that I can't talk about flowers to him for one year. ugh!

BUT...he has now said that (THIS IS A BIG DEAL) that I can have PURPLE IN THE CENTERPIECES!!!! He hates purple but said, if it's cheap, then its ok and I really don't care anyway!

YAY!

So, yeah, I guess I was right before - PERSONALITY is a must!

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

Leese, I would LOVE to know who you went to. I have a real problem with spending thousands upon thousands of dollars and STILL being treated like a child. When you find a good photographer, let us know! :)

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

So sorry, Leese, that you had to spend time with an idiot like that. You work hard earning your money and he doesn't deserve it. I know that it must have been so frustrating but at least you can move on.

Good luck, the right photographer is out there!

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

thanks girls....

i think i know who i want to go to just based on...personality and quality of work and the ability to pick and choose stuff.

but i think i'm going to wait for the Floral Terrace/SandCastles showcase on the 24th since all the vendors they use will be there.

we shall see!

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

Is it evil to want to call him today and tell him that he was horrible?

UGH.... I should have gone with my gut and told him off and left.

I would LOVE for someone from there to send me some packet or for someone to call....I would have so much fun with that!!!

I would not call him but I would wait & see if you get a call (chances are you will) & then tell them you felt that they were very unprofessional on how they handled you that night & that you did not appreciate that.

Re: Had my first bad vendor experience...

I had a NIGHTMERE experience with a photog too... I posted about it on the BHB board under Photgrapher vent... sounds like your guy was as jerky as mine...

I feel the same way about you as making my own albums! I thought I was one of the few... everyone keeps trying to talk me out of it!
