NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

my brother was over the house again mettling with this computer.
i think he like reloaded windows or something.

Anyway, I can't click on links. Webpages will load - but when I try to click on a link on the page like say to check out a LIW profile the 2nd window won't pop up like it normlly does.

Instead the Windows bar at top of the window (says LONG ISLAND WEDDINGS - MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER) just sought of flicks and doesn't do anything.

Is there anything I can do to get these pages to pop up?

I have a pop-up stopper but it is currently off.
thanks.

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

Which bottom bar? In the pop-up window, or on the bottom of your screen of the main page (internet explorer)?

It sounds to me like he installed another pop-up blocker that you're unaware of. You're positive the one you normally use is off??? Just checking

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

You can also try right-clicking with the mouse and just "open target in a new window"

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

hmmm..I see now what you're talking about---it must look like this

javascript:FPopUp('profile.aspx?ID=9957',420,390);

I tried to open your profile using my second technique to see if it would work (right mouse click, open in new window)--and that was the message I got in the browser bar.

You definitely have another pop-up blocker at work.....let me see if I can work you through this....

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

OK--try this

1) go into your Start Menu (bottom left corner)
2) highlight Control Panel
3) highlight Add or Remove Programs
4) look in upper right corner of this menu---click on the arrow pointing down and click on "Sort by--Date last used"
5) Look for your newly installed (the most recent date) pop-up program.....you can then highlight it, click on it, and remove it from your PC.

Good luck--this is very tough to do without seeing the exact message...but I think I've got it.

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

You might be able to try clicking on that bar that "pops up" on the bottom---sometimes my pop-up blocker wants me to click on it to "allow" me to have pop-ups show up..... Such a pain in the arse!!

Try clicking on my profile again--when that bar pops up--click on it and see what it says...Does it ask you to 1) temporarily allow pop-ups, 2) allow all pop-ups, 3) pop some popcorn,

Just try clicking on it...maybe that'll work???

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

OK--this is my last shot...then I'm lost if this doesn't work...

1) Click on Tools (Upper bar in Internet Explorer)
2) Highlight Pop Up Blocker
3) Click on Pop Up Blocker Settings
4) Put your filter level at Medium
5) Type in LIW's website address...this should override all the pop-ups on LIW and allow them.

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

the problem definitely has to do w/ javacript...i was once having a problem w/ popups and he downloaded something off the internet and it made it work.

I hate when the "good popups" are now unable to load LOL

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

I think I figured it out......if your brother is all about computers, he probably tried to download this new program (it's the latest and greatest to spyware/adware, pop-ups, etc....). It's called STOPzilla.....my FH (who's a computer genius) downloaded this software the other day and we began to have the same problem with our main PC....it's just a thought---but the program affected all of the javascripting and html stuff on our computer--it took him a while to fix. If he's any good....I would just have your brother come over and fix whatever it is he did. I'm out of ideas for now. SOooooo sorry!!!

I can email you anything of true importance that you're looking for now though!! Just let me know.

Ya know...that sounds SO FAMILIAR!!!!
I think that's *exactly* what he did LOL...
everytime he comes over this house he fixes one thing and screw up another.
I can't win. But thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH for trying to get me through this.
I'm just gonna call him tomorrow and go bridezilla on his arse.

thanks

Re: NWR- please help me computer savvy people!

A. it may seem java is off...(there is no way to download this. its in the service pack 1. (you should have service pack 2 installed) click on windows update.

B. once you get service pack 2 from step A, you will have Microsoft pop up block. Also get the goolge popup blocker... these are the only 2 things you need to combat popups (this is what i use.

good luck
