Re: has anyone ever been to Belize???

it seemed like it would be an okay place, we saw monkeys in the rain forest..there are no beaches though. and we were suppose to go into underwater caves, but they were in the middle of gorilla-rebel warfare, so we had to stay close to the city. are you going there?

Re: has anyone ever been to Belize???

There are definitly beaches!

The region is both jungle and beach - most people who do Belize do both - a few in the Jungle and a few on the Beach.

Check out Turtle Bay.

Also, do a search on here for Belize, there are alot of threads.

Re: has anyone ever been to Belize???

we went to Belize on a cruise ( one of the port stops). It was okay but I will probably never go back. We went cave tubing which was different. The heart of the city was very run down and kindda scarey ...Not a place you would want to go for sight seeing... Never went to a beach there so I cant give input on that.

The city is very poor and used to be considered unsafe (most pickpockets) but is getting much better as it gets more tourism and money to get built up.
Belize is not like a cushy Caribbean vacation. I would suggest going if you are adventurous travelers. It's an adventure kind of location, with great beaches and jungle and wonderful people.

Do ome internet searches - there are many Belize fanatics out there who live for the area. Best feature of all - CHEAP AS HELL!!

Re: has anyone ever been to Belize???

we went to belize on a cruise this past may. it was beautiful.. we actually did an snorkling excursion which took us out to an island that was no bigger then a football field.. it was gorgeous.. great snorkling altho we both got horribly sun burnt because we forgot to reapply sunscreen.

the city itself wasn't the greatest.. we just went and had a few drinks (great strawberry daiquiris!) and then got back on the ship to pass out cause we were so burnt.

Re: has anyone ever been to Belize???

As people above noted, Belize City itself is certainly a bit run-down, but most people who go to Belize do so for the scuba-diving, fishing or outer atolls. There are nice beaches and many of the islands themselves are wonderful, though geared towards the diver. For honeymoon, look into Cayo Espanto. For diving/fishing look into Turneffe Island Lodge. For fun and beach look into Ambergris Caye. For adventure and possible whale sharks look into Placencia or Glovers Atoll. And for a wonderful jungle experience look at Francis Ford Coppola's Blancaneaux Lodge (Turtle Inn is his sister resort on the beach near Placencia). All these places are phenomenal.
