NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

hi ladies just a question for you..what does everyone do for a living? Do you genuinely like what your doing? Is it more the people at the job that makes you stay or the job itself? . I ask this because i started a new job about 4 months and i really dont like it i am very actively looking around, but I am not certain its the job more then i hate my boss. Just pondering life, i have about 2 yrs until i am done going to school for social work. just trying to get an idea what everyone does and what lead them to it. TIA

Re: NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

I work for NYC Administration for Children's Services. I have been there for 5 years now. My first 2 years were in child protection (I removed kids when necessary) and for the past 3 years I have been in family preservation which is working intensively with families who are in crisis and help them get stable enough so that their children can remain in their care. I am in grad school at Yeshiva University pursing my Masters in Social work as well. I will graduate in May 2006.

Helping children, families, women, people is my passion. I feel it is my calling and I love what I do.

I am a network administrator and i like the work just not the office politics but i have really good benefits and good vacation. so the only damper to working is the gossip but that is everywhere you go.

i am a substitute teacher , and one day will be a classroom teacher but my dream jobs range from

flight attendant (to be able to travel)
makeup artist ( i love being girly)

i think i could definitely do librarian in the near future...and if i could be the school librarian and get to work with kids ...well i would die happy

Re: NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

Currently I'm a real estate paralegal. I don't like it and plan on looking for a job after the wedding. The only think keeping me sane at this job are the people I work with.

I quit my job in PR in the city shortly after getting engaged. I knew we'd be buying a house in Suffolk county and I couldn't continue the commute. I miss my job so much though. I tried to find a PR job out here, but they're few and far between and do not pay nearly as much as I was making in the city (try 1/2 as much!).

Anyone know of any great advertising/marketing/PR firms on LI?

Re: NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

I am a marketing rep for a psychiatric hospital. And I don't really like it. I do work out of home, haven't really done anything since I got the job in November, no real appointments or accounts because no one wants to hear about us since our reputation is so bad, so no I don't like it. A lot of people would say who cares, you work out of your home. As much as that is nice, I can be very lazy and I know for me, now, it just doesn't work. I mean, hello? I spend more time on LIWeddings than anything else. Before that I worked in teh admissions department at the psychiatric hospital which was a lot more dangerous and I hated even more. My dream job is to work in college admissions. I'm hoping our move up to DC will help me out in that search.

Re: NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

I do hardware research for a computer company. I more like the people I work with then the work I do. Half the time it's challenging - half the time it's boring. I'm gonna stick with it cause it's a temp job that ends in May.... then our wedding is in June.... and we move to NC in August, so I'm not worried.

I am an administrative assistant at an IT firm but I attend school part-time, studying nutrition, I hope to become a registered dietitian. I used to like my job more, there have been a lot of changes so I'm not as happy, but I do like the people I work with, so that helps.

Re: NWR-A lazy Sunday afternoon question for the 05 ladies

I work for an internet company that sells perfume/cologne/aromatherapy/skincare etc at discount prices to the public. My title? Administrative Assistant to the CEO. Do I like it? NOPE. Pay stinks people stink, job stinks.

Once the wedding comes and goes I will be actively looking for a new employment oppertunity. But, at this point it is in my best interest to stay where I am until the wedding.
