Great fitness resource for brides who live and/or work in or around the city...
FI and I have been wanting to join a gym to help us lose weight and get in shape for the wedding and for life in general, but we can't afford the huge expense of joining the gyms around the city. One of FI's coworkers told him about the rec center program for the city, so we checked into it. There are several of them around the city. In particular, there is a brand new one on 54th between 1st and 2nd. They have a weight room with free weights, a few weight machines, and some cardio machines, a track, a pool in nice condition, and basketball court. The one on 58th between 10th and 11th even has a climbing wall (although the facility is much older). The best part of all is the price... $75 for the YEAR AND it's good for use at any of the rec centers. Check out the link for more info:NYC REC CENTERS

When I lived in the city I went to the one at 23rd Street, near 1st Avenue--Asser Levy. Classes were extra but were very reasonable. That location was written up in Time Out NY as one of the best kept secrets in NY city. ENJOY.

Good to know - I used to pay about $100 a month at New York Sports Club and never went. I won't feel guilty if I am only paying $75 a year!

That's awesome! Fi & I used to go t the ine in W. 4th St...but now I work in Midtown...the one in 54th St has a pool! Thanks so much!

What a great resource. Too bad there don't seem to be any near downtown which is where I work. Oh well. It's still great for everyone else. thanks for sharing

It might be worth checking out. I only wish I could afford it. then again I am perfectly happy with my trainer at Bally Total Fitness.
