Re: My fat cat is tipping the scales at 21lbs now!
Well here's the problem actually, we have another cat, his sister and when they were kittens we noticed he was gaining weight 2x as fast as her. We quickly realized it was because our little fatso was eating his food as well as her so for a few months we had them on an automatic feeder so she can get some food which she did. So now we're at the point where she's a little chubby too so they could both use a diet I guess. We were trying the weight control formula dry food, however he has put on a pound since then. Is that considered diet food or is there actually diet cat food?ETA a pic of both my fat babies!

I'm not sure which brand you are using, there are many out there. When our cat starts to chunk up, we swtich him to the Iams Reduced Calorie Diet (dry food)...and he does very well.

Thanks maybe I'll try that. We were using the Iams weight control formula I didn't realize there was a reduced calorie one.

I just went upstairs to double check the food, and it's actually called:'Eukanuba
Veterinary Diets
Restricted Calorie'.
Sorry for the mix up, my brain isn't working today (I've got the flu...

Iams is actually very bad for your cat.Go to the vet and get a prescrip. diet food. At that weight he may die young of heart disease or diabetes, it's horribly unhealthy.
You should go to the vet and have his thyroid checked and bloodwork done anyway, before he shows symptoms and it's too late to halt if that's what he has.

I too have huge-mongous cats...18 and 22 lb. After they got fixed, they blew up and I haven't been able to get them to slim down even with light food. They don't get a lot of exersize, but they are cuties just like yours. Doc can't even feel the organs of the bigger one when we go to the vet. The one in my chat avatar is the 18 pounder.

Re: My fat cat is tipping the scales at 21lbs now!
I have two fat cats like that too. They are on Wellness reduced calorie dry food.
My Vet said that the Wellness has more protein in it so they don't have to eat as much to feel full- whereas the Iams isn't really that great for them.
My cats are really fat though and they don't really excercise... so it's REALLY hard for them to lose weight.

Re: My fat cat is tipping the scales at 21lbs now!
First off, your kitty's are sooo cute!!My mom's cat is pushing 22 pounds and is on prescription diet food from the vet. He actually lost a pound when we took him to the vet this past November...He runs around a bit and goes outside more in the summer time..but, never looses weight..I think they need to invent Gastric bipass (sp?) surgery for cats...
