ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

We went to see how much we should expect to pay to get our kitchen redone. Well with the cabinets and countertop (with installation) it would be $9,800!! We would still need to pay for the installation of the cabinets, tiling, appliances and lighting. My raise is not going to cover this so we will have to wait until my dh gets his next raise. I hope it is soon!!!

That is actually not bad at all! What type of countertop does that include?

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

We are almost done with our kitchen which was done with Home Depot.
Just a word of caution - the initial estimate they gave us was low. It wound up being more, so just anticipate it being $2-3k more than what they tell you initially to be safe.
There are lots of little things that add up along the way.

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

dh just started there and told me that knobs aren't included and that people don't expect that and are shocked that some knobs on cabinets can be another 1,000$

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

The countertops are granite.

The girl did estimate the hardware so at least we have an idea for that.

Thanks!

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

What material are the cabinets and how big is your kitchen? The findings (knobs & draw pulls are expensive)...
Does that quote include just new cabinet doors or the actual entire cabinet?

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

They were American Woodmark Cabinets. The price was for the whole cabinets. We have about a 10 x 10 kitchen.

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

I agree that it ends up being more than HD first quotes you...we ended up spending almost 12k on cabinets and countertops alone(we using the same cabinet manufacturer) AND we are doing the labor ourselves.
It starts to add up quick!

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

Maybe you should shop around and get other quotes, if you haven't already.

I remember reading some time ago about problems many Home Depot customers had with kitchen re-dos .. particularly the cabinets and their measurements.

Re: ahhh-just went to home depot re: new kitchen

I highly recommend checking with Consumer's Kitchens and Baths. We did our kitchen last year - and they actually beat HD's price by quite a few thousand dollars - like $7K - and the quality of their produts is superior. For example, the bottom-line basic cabinet for Consumers is one of HD's best cabinets, but with numerous upgrades. Plus, we got Silaestone countertops, and the exact same countertop was over $2,000 less at Consumer's.

Sometimes it pays to go to a store that specializes in what you are looking for (like kitchen cabinetry).

Good luck!!
