So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
We are truely struggling now. It's not like he isnt trying but I cant take it sometimes. Having him around the house knowing its killing him not being able to bring money in. Anyone else in my shoes?

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
I've been jobless for a month now and with a new apartment and a baby on the way, we are struggling a bit. I technically have a job right now, but they've been incredibly SLOW processing the paperwork. I can't wait to get started because I feel so useless right now. I hate DH having to have all this stress on his shoulders.
My situation isn't the same as yours, but I can relate. Hopefully things will turn around soon for you

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
DH was laid off a few years ago (before we got engaged) and it happened a week before we moved into a new apartment. We struggled for over a year so I know how hard it is. DH was very depressed at first b/c he was not contributing $$. Once he decided to stop feeling sorry for himself, he made the apartment his job. When he wasn't job hunting, he was cleaning, organizing, food shopping, and he always had dinner prepared for when I got home (I worked lots of overtime to make up some of the money). It was very enjoyable to have him home doing all those things.Maybe if your DH takes all this up, it will make him feel like he is contributing and it helps, it really does.
In ways I kind of miss having my 'house boy' doing it all for me.
Best of luck to your DH on the job hunt. He will find something before you know it!

What field is he looking in? Perhaps some of the ladies and gents on this board work in that same field and can help.Worth a shot.

Same shoes here! My DH has been laid off just about the same amount of time also. I am doing an unpaid full-time internship right now also. I am fortunate to have 2 very good paying consultant jobs. I am crazy though. I am working 55 hrs a week and going to grad school 2 nights a week. We both need to just hang in there and say our prayers!

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
I know eaxctly where you are coming from. My husband(then fiance) got laid off the day after he bought my ring. I wasn't expecting to get enegaed 2 days later , but he unknowing had already bought the ring. Anyway, it was so hard because he looked constantly and ended up unemployed for 11 out of our 14th month engagement. It was so much pressure on me. He was constantly depressed and it was hard for me to be optimistic. But then the right job came along and he was able to help me out the last few 3 months before the wedding. Luckily our parents then helped us too. hang in there. Something will come along! Good luck!

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
i understand. dh quit his job in july before the wedding. it was a good thing for himmentally, but stressful. he tried a job in october and the hours were going to be from 5-2 am...we were both like noooo. then in december, he worked for ups for a week and half. i was going crazy b/c i was working my a$$ off, waitressing weekly, paying the rent, insurance and my school loan, and food...i was going nuts but keeping it all inside b/c i knew he was embarassed and stressed and disappointed and therefore, i couldn't let him know it was bothering me immensly that i was doing everything. he recently got a job and so far, so good, but now he thinks i love him more b/c he is working
. the thing is, now that he is working, i'm less stressed and can give him more time and love. much luck! hang in there and let him know that you love him. in the meantime, can he get like a crappy job, like pumping gas or waitering? i wanted dh to do this just so that there was money but it would be the kind of job that he can leave in a heartbeat...but it also isn't a career, just omehitng to bring in cash.

my DH wound up taking a night job as a security guard at the Sheraton. It worked out well b/c we get GREAT discounts @ most Sheraton/Westin Hotels.

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
It seems that there are alot of people in yor shoes - unfortunately so am I. I got laid off since a week before my wedding (October). With the wedding and then we moved it has been so difficult. Money wise we are doing ok, but it can't last like this forever. It is so hard to find anything out there. I feel so bad, anytime I want to by something, I second guess myself, cause I don't want to waste any money. It's so sad. Hopefully, I will find something soon.

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
Why doesn't he get a part-time job so that he feels like he is contributing, but then he still has plenty of time to search for a job.I left my job right before our wedding to start student teaching and while I am looking for a job for next year, I sub a few days a week and do some tutoring. This way I am not sitting around the house moping about having no work.

Re: So BUMMED! Husband has been laid off since Thanksgiving
Thanks ladies for all the support. It truely has been difficult. He is doing part time work, but they are not offering many hours.I try not to get fustrated but sometimes I cant help it. He does do things around the house but of coarse it is not the way I would do it. But I shouldnt complain atleast he is doing something.
His field is human resources. He really is looking for a large company were he can do alot.
Keep your fingers crossed,he had his 3rd interview with this one company today.
thanks again!!Its nice to know I am not alone and that we will make it.
