the house hunt has officially begun...
So FI is a big baby and does not take to change very well... we offically started house hunting... everything has to be done in baby steps for him to get used to the idea...
here are our steps so far...1. started to look at house in the paper...
2. Once he was used to that, we started to look at houses on mlsli.com and looked at pictures of the insides of houses...
3. I went to a realtor friend to tell her to keep an eye out for us... and gave us a stack of prospect sheets to go through
4. weeks later, FI actually LOOKed at the sheets...
5. after begging and pleading we drove through the areas we were interested in
6. after some more prodding, we actually drove by houses that were for sale in our price range that I had prospect sheets on
7. FI now goes on MLSLI.com by himself!!!
8. now FINALLY he is ready to look at the inside of actual houses that we can afford!!
So i made appts for this weekend to go look at houses!!! Im so excited!!!
Any advice on what to look for??? Im hoping this first outing wont depress us...

Re: the house hunt has officially begun...
good luck. you need to make a list of 'must-haves' i.e # location, property size, SD, # of bdrms, baths, type of home (colonial, ranch, split. etc..) and keep an open mind (including decor).IMO, no home is 100% perfect, so be patient and have fun.

Re: the house hunt has officially begun...
we started to look in the sound/beach rocky point area... but found that the houses in our price range didn't have much land, and the area is very hilly and the houses are so close together... FI wants a nice flat piece of property... so this week we are looking in the 3village, comsewogue area...

My sister bought a house in Rocky Point last year. It was actually someone's summer cottage
I know what you mean about the hills.. she is on a cliff! She is in a nice friendly neighborhood though. If you need a real estate angent let me know. The one I used is great and she is from Port Jeff.. she knows the area really well.

Thank you for the offer.... I have a family friend helping us out... she actually works at the Pt. Jeff Coldwell banker...When you were house hunting, did she call you when she found something that she thought you might like, or did you do a lot of research on your own?? (like going on mlsli.com)

Re: the house hunt has officially begun...
I would suggest trying to visit some Open Houses. I found that a great way to get a sense of the range of properties available without pressure from a broker. I also found that I was visiting Open Houses for properties that matched my search that no realtor told me about -- and ended up making a bid for my condo at an open house.
