How much lower than asking price did you bid...

and did you have to bid up the price? Did you get the price at what you offered? HOw much was the house worth vs. what they were asking?
Did they accept than cancel out on you?
If you love a house and it is slightly higher than you wanted to spend...should you bid full asking price?

Help me :(

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

we bid $10.00 HIGHER! That's it, just ten bucks! We got the house right away. It was only up for sale 1 day. We did have to put A LOT of work in to it but we got it for such an awesome price. Since we renovated it, it was assessed for $150k more than we had bought it!

here's a before and after shot to show you how much we put into it. we did tons of stuff inside.

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

We originally bid 13,900 less and they countered with 8,900 less and we accepted. There were only 2 houses in E. Northport that were under 400,000 and we felt the house was a better deal than the other one!

ETA: We also bid 30,000 less on a house in Nesconset but we knew we were low-balling them and they wouldn't accept it (and they didn't).

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

They were asking $589,000 and we bought it for $545,000. I think that is about 7-8% below asking price.

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

We bid $15k below asking. We fully expected the owners to counter and we were hoping to meet somewhere in the middle. But we lucked out- one of the homeowners was transferred for work and they wanted to sell ASAP. So we got it for the price we bid

ETA- This was in Putnam County, where the market is not as 'hot' as LI. We also saw two houses that were nearly the same price but were not nearly as nice as the one we are buying. So we feel that we got a good deal!

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

We purchased back in 2001 and we offered asking price in the driveway. We were the 2nd offer on the 1st day the house went on the market.

(We bid less than asking price on 4 other homes and ended up in bidding wars. Thank god we didn't win b/c our current house ended up being the best buy out of all of them!)

We refinanced a little over a year later and the house appraised for $150k more with no work done to it.

Now the properties around here sell for more than what we paid for our home and a similar house to ours down the road was asking over 1Mil.

We didn't really buy the 'house.' We bought the location and property. I remember the day like it was yesterday...my DH walked straight through the house into the backyard. When he saw that backyard, that's when it was sold!

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

We paid $20K less than what the lady was asking - we bought back in 2000. We could not afford our house today. It was recently appraised at double what we paid for it

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

we bid $20K under asking and got it for $14K under...

It was definitely a deal - we bought in Sept, and now the same house around the corner is listed for $95K more than we paid

we had a few other accepted offers out there than we bailed on for one reason or another, but there were all under asking.

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

Asking price was $489,000 we bid $475,000 and then went up to $485,000 so we wouldn't loose the house to another bid.

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

We got into a bidding war. We went back and forth and finally matched the other offer and the sellers thought we would be a better fit for the house so we got it. Even though the other offer was more attractive - much bigger down payment. We went over the asking price.

The house we bought wasn't on 2nd but I think we looked at that one. Was it a little brown house with a garage all the way in the back kinda like in the backyard?

Re: How much lower than asking price did you bid...

After leaving the house (the very first time we saw it) and going back to the real estate agent's office, the agent called the home owner with our full-price offer .. and we were accepted in the very same phone call .. within about 5 minutes!!! The house was THE one for me .. and I didn't want to get stuck in a bidding war .. hubby backed me up on the decision .. and luckily the homeowners were eager too .. it was the first day the house was on the market!

kelly4 - just wanted to say I LOVE what you did with your house .. it looks absolutely beautiful!!!
