Children at the Wedding

My fiance and I decided we would have a 'kid age limit' of 12 and over invited to our wedding. Main reason is that I have a lot of children 10 and under in my family and didn't want a bunch of kids running around. In his family, there is one 5 year old niece (who is not the best disciplined child) and we excluded her as well, thinking it wouldn't be fair to allow her and not the others.

Problem is, my fiance's brother, sister in law AND parents say they won't come unless the 5 year old can come. I think they are being ridiculous and are making this day more about them. My fiance and I are refusing to budge and are at the point where we hope they just stay home after all the fuss they have made.

My fiance and I are paying 95% of our wedding with only MY parents paying the remaining 5% (no contribution is being made by his family at all). Therefore, I don't believe they should have any opinions at all.

Who's wrong here?

Re: Children at the Wedding

i think what you're doing is your right!! We're pretty much the same way too. It gets crazy after awhile and you need to be able to limit things...

Re: Children at the Wedding

I completely agree. When does a whole family say 'you better do it or I am not coming to your wedding' screw them.

Re: Children at the Wedding

Girl you do what you want to do they are not paying!!!
please I have the similar problem the only thing they are 16 and 12. First of all they are at the age that they will sit in the chair and whip out their game boy and play it all night. I am not about to pay for two chairs where they are just going to sit there. Please I might as well invite two adult. Well anyway the mother (of the kids)in the past has asked the bride if she could bring her kids. She is the only one that does that. She has asked 4 past brides and they have all given in. Not with me. I am also paying for most of my wedding and I think is rude of them to give you an ultimatum. I would tell them 'well I am really sorry but we will miss you at our wedding.'

Re: Children at the Wedding

Some people really have b***s. I would stick to the original plan. Everyone who receives an invite has the option to say no so I say let them say no!
