Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
we put off buying a house for a year because of the $$ factor, just unable to financially do both...

We closed on our house March 31st and got married May 17th. Which is not super super close but still within 50 days. I have to tell you there were a few days in there that we were really freaking out but overall it was not too bad.

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We closed 2 weeks after returning from the honeymoon. There were times when I was stressed but it wasn't that bad really. As for money, we had our wedding money and downpayment saved for all at once
That was hard. I don't think I bought myself ANY new clothes that year. At the wedding though, we did get a lot of money back from gifts. We are using that for home improvements now

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We closed on June 9th and got married on the 26th!It was alot (especially with the fact I also changed jobs only 2 weeks before closing) but basically DH handled all the mortgage stuff and I handled most of the wedding stuff!
I wont lie, there was alot of stress at the end! But it was sooo worth it! I love my house and my DH!

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
I think it's definitely very stressful but not unbearable. We are also closing about 5 months before the wedding so it's not too bad. As far as money stress (especially for us b/c we're paying for the wedding ourselves) if you budget appropriately, you should be fine. We budgeted very carefully but also made sure we had a decent amount left over in case of an emergency.

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We got married on the 19th, closed on the house on the 21st(my birthday
) and moved in the day after we got back from the honeymoon. It was the most exciting month of my life!! A little stressful, but exciting!

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We did it as well. We closed on a townhouse in January. It was very very very stressful. Many sleepless nights and worrying about money before the closing. But now that it is over and I am not dealing with real estate agents, attorneys and lenders things are back to normal. After buying a house wedding planning is a breeze. You are in control with wedding planning but buying a house involves so many people and different factors.
It is doable - like the above poster said budget and don't spread yourself too thin.
Good luck!

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We are getting married in July 2006 and just purchased a house in August 2004! It is very Stresssful!!!!!!
Both of us have been saving one pay check per month to pay for the wedding, mortgage and renovations! It seems all of our time and energy is going towards either the house/wedding. But it is also extremely exciting!

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
We bought 5 months before the wedding. Looking back on it I'm glad we did it - but it was double the sacrafice with savings and we had to hold off on doing alot of the stuff on the house to pay for the wedding...that was so hard. Needless to say, it was EXTREMELY stressful...but it worked out for us!

Re: Getting Married and Buying a House?
we closed mar 31 of this year and are getting married 4/22/06we are able to afford the house b/c our parents are paying for 90% of the wedding, i saved all my bonus $ and we borrowed a chunk from my office interest free.
we are also putting only 5% down and using a big chunk of $ for renovations.
the stress level is not so bad.
i was expecting it to be worse but we worked out al lthe numbers and i think we will be ok.
