Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

If FH's parents are not contributing at all to the wedding, what kind of gift would you expect to receive??
(Assuming they aren't in financial hardship or anything and knowing of course that gifts are not necessary and any amount is generous)

Re: Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

To be honest I'm not expecting anything. I know that sounds terrible, but I'm not. I love them to death and they're great people, but I feel like this especially because they're flying their whole family to Ireland for our wedding. If we get something I'll be pleasantly surprised.

That doesn't sound terrible at all! I think you sound perfectly logical and your future in-laws sound wonderful.

Re: Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

I have no idea what they'll give honestly. And at this point, with FH's Dad in and out of the hospital, we just want them to be there!

Re: Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

Yea they are contributing to our wedding so I'm really not sure how much if anything we are going to get the day of as a present. Anything will be nice, but we're not expecting anything. Their gift to us can be to watch our cat and bunny while we're on our honeymoon...

Re: Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

FH mom is not contributing anything to the wedding and I don't know if she will give us a gift or not. It would be nice if she did, especially since my parents have given us so many gifts already and are planning to give us a lot more, but I have no expectations.

Re: Wedding Gift from FH's parents?

FH's parents know it is the right thing to do to contribute something to the wedding. I am sure they will either give a lump sum of money or offer to pay for one of the more costly vendors. Though I'll be honest with you, I would rather have them offer money because if they pay for the vendor then they would want to choose it. I wouldn't like it and neither would my family - it is just how we are. Who knows though. Too hard to say at this point in time.

My future mother in law (who will be 80 this month) is flying here from Puerto Rico - that's good enough for us!!
