Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

Have a great time! I feel really dumb, b/c brad and I walked by there the other day. I noticed that it was no longer the Disney Store, but thought it was just a name change, and we didn't stop in!! Now I want to go back!

Now that I have my internship, we're planning summer vacation. I spent a good chunk of yesterday looking up flights to orlando, and figuring out which magic your way package we want!

Jenn, you are probably more familiar with the restaurants in Disney than we are. Do you think the magic your way + dining is worth it? I looked at the list of participating restaurants yesterday, but i'm clueless!

Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

It really depends. Do you have a link to what restaraunts aprticipate?

For Doug and I it really isn't worth it b/c we try to save $$ by not eating much...haha

If California Grill is included (this restaraunt is AMAZING) then it might be worth it, because dinner there for 2 can be $100-150. That's my biggets recommendation.

I think the food plan includes one snack, one counter service and one sit down meal per day. Doug and I usually only have sit down meals every other day. We save $$ by bringing lots of granola bars and bottles water and we ahve that for breakfast and alte night snacks. We try to plan one character breakfast (not included in the meal plan, so if that's something you want to do, it would ne extra on top of it), one dinner and sometimes one nice lunch while we're there. The rest of the time, we basically just grab counter service meals. We LOVE cosmic rays starlight cafe (MK- tomorrowland), and we have lunch/dinner there about 3 times per visit. That would be your counter service..

I don't know if I'm explaining this right. if you're going to EAT, then it's worth it depending onw hat rstaraunts participate. If you're like us and you don't eat, it's not worth it. I think it can be worth it anyway though because food really does ADD UP.

You have to think about how much the dining plan is (Iforget) and think about how much you plan to eat. and see if it adds up. I think it's probably worth it though, unless you're like me. b/c I eat granola bars all week to save $$, and last time we brought a cooler (cheaper than renting a fridge, although now moderates ahve a fridge for free), and I NEVER finish restaraunt meals, so I'd always have food to bring hme and eat the next day. We are SO cheap, I know.

Ok..so figure a snack will run you $3-5 per person
a counter service meal $8-10 p/p
a sit down meal $20-25 p/p

If you really plan to eat that and the plan costs less (I think it does_ then it's worth it. But it depends on what constitutes a 'meal' and if tax and gratuity are included. it's been awhile since I spoke with someone from CRO on the phone, so I don't really remember those exact details.

Anyway, I highly reccomend for snakcs, the muffin cart outside of tower of terror has amazing muffins, also at MGM the abc commissary has good fast food (we usually get kids meals to save $$), and the 50's prime time cafe at MGM is a BLAST! You're in a 50's kitchen, and you'd better set the table right and eat all your veggies or your big brother mickey won't give you any dessert!

In Epcot, let me think, the japanese food is great (sit down). The american pavillion has great veggie burgers (counter service) and funnel cakes (snack). And I've heard the restaraunt inside the mexican temple is good.

At Animal kingdom they have good ice cream as they do everywhere (snack) and I doubt this is included, but we always try to get lunch at the rainforest cafe.

At Magic Kingdom the ice cream aprlor is Yum (snack), Cosmic Ray's Starlgith Cafe is a trip (counter service) and ANY meal in the castle is yummerific.

As far as cahracter meals go, the cinderella's royal table breakfast is by FAR the best but you have to book it at exactly 7:00 am 90 days before or you will NOT get tickets, 2nd best is the princess breakfast at akershus in norway (same characters for the msot part, food and setting not as good), and say away from the cinderella and frineds dinner at 1900 park fare. it's nice to be in the grand floridian but the food is gross and you only see the mice, you have to line up outside to meet cinderella and the prince.

Wait..am I the only ADULT character meal connoiseur?

Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

Also, for a yummy snack no trip to WDW (especially during the summer) is compelte with DOLE WHIP! It's so good. The stand is located on the way back from pirates and tiki room, it's near the swiss family robinson tree house I think.

Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

Also, not to be overly verbose as usual, but it's really important which restaraunts participate, and which restaruant you want to go to, because if you definitely want a character meal and californi grill for example, and they're not included, then you're either eating a LOT that day, or wasting your sit down dinner.

Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

Thanks so much Jenn - you're a great resource for this stuff. Part of the problem is that neither of us know which restaurants we are going to want to eat at, since we haven't been to WDW since we were teenagers! Here's the link to the dining plan, which lists the restaurants. When you get a chance, please let me know what you think. We don't know if this is a good selection or not.

It ends up costing about $500 total for the two of us for 7 days of dining.

Thank you SO much!

magic your way plus dining

Re: My weekend plans - World of Disney

I just took a cursory look at it. What they didn't tell me when I called CRO a few months back was that you can use them in any order, so you can have 3 snacks one day, and 2 table service, etc. I actually think it probably is worth it. it turns your trip into an all inclusive. I see that my fave place Califronia Grill is on there, but it take sup 2 table service meals. i think that's still worth it!

I think it's great! I think it's probably worth it!

I love that so much is included and it really is only the MOST expensive places that take up 2 meals. I know I can't stop raving about Califronia Grill, but its so great. get a priority seating for 1 hour before fireworks. it overlooks the magic kingdom, and during the fireworks they dim the ligts and pipe in the fireworks music. It's SO romantic. Fh surprised me by taking me there the night ebfore we got engaged and it was So romantic he said he'd wished he had the ring with him because he would ahve proposed right then. We also went back last year for our 5 year dating anniversary. It's really really romantic!

The meal plan actually sounds good!

I don't think you can do it as annual passholders, but if you can I think me and D will defintiely do it!
