Re: Greek Brides Thread

This may be tacky- but how much is the suggested donation for your church/fees. The church that my DH and I were planning on getting married at are charging us $500 for member ship fee, $125 for organist, $50 caretaker fee and a donation to the priest on top of that. We also have to pay for our koumbaro's membership fee because he is 19 and considered an adult and requires his own membership of $500. Our koumbaro can't afford that cause he doesn't have a job. So we are looking at $1200. Is that crazy?? That's alot of money for us. I think I may have to look elsewhere for our ceremony.
If you feel uncomfortable posting please FM. Thanks.

That's crazy..
My church charged $365 when I booked in 2004 and another $365 for 2005.. I was SO pissed... ugh
I would go to the Greek church in corona that charges $100 to become a member get a receipt and bring it to the church that wants to charge you $500. Then see what they say.
What church are u getting married at?

Sounds like what we are paying. $365 for 2005 and $365 for 2006. I don't remember how much the organist is right now but around there. Yes, definitely crazy!

Re: Greek Brides Thread

We are/may be getting married at St. Paraskevi. I'm going to call St. Nick's and Assumption (babylon and port Jeff) and see what they require. I just think it's so much money. I should ask if I'm a member elsewhere would I still have to pay those fees. Thanks for all of your replies.

If you are a member at another church.. Then NO you won't have to pay @ St. Paraskevi. Just get proof and bring it with you when u book the church. Good Luck

there is a certain traditional song that the bride and groom dance to after their first dance. it's called the BRIDE SONG. your DJ/Band should know it.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

I'm getting married in St. Paul's too (7/30)
my FH is italian/polish. His best man is his brother, but his brother can not exchange the crowns. He has to be Greek. His brother is able to exchange the rings. My godfather is exchanging the crowns and he is not in the bridal party.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to tell you that this past Sunday I got married in the new Greek church on the corner of Cedar Swamp ROad and Northern Blvd, right next to CW Post, it was the first wedding there and it was a beautiful ceremony! Best of luck to all of you!

Yiasou!

Hello! I'm at the same stage as you are. Pretty much i've heard you should start looking at bands by word of mouth. (but I've broadened my search to the internet since you can hear a lot of these tracks on their website.
Here is a TINY list of the one's i've checked out..i'm still searching though (I am looking for 50/50 greek/american

Alpha Band, Astoria, NY
Zephyros Band (Baltimore, MD)
Jack Goodman Orchestra (NYC/NJ)
Something Special Orchestra (NJ) (american but hire out bouzouki player/clarinet
Mylos Entertainment (who GN1125 is using)

My brother used Something Special orchestra--they were good

hope this helps..like I saild i'm stumped on this too so any info from any other brides would be much appreciated...

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Thanks honeybee for the info...I'm definitely going to look into them. You're right, I've been finding some websites and listening, but I think it's still the best to hear them in person. Good luck searching, keep me posted on ur band search. I'll let you know what I find!!

Thanks again,
Maria

Re: Greek Brides Thread

So I have a question? I am a russian orthodox bride getting married in a greek orthodox church. I went to a ceremony and noticed that there was no exchange of vows...Was anyone allowed to add the exchanging of the vows to the end of their ceremony?? I want to ask the priest, but I though I would get some opinions first.

There is also Powerstation Band - the owner is Chris Lambropoulos - they are great but they have two bands and wont guarantee a particular singer or bouzouki player - for the money they were charging i wanted a guarantee.

DH and I used Fantasia Music (aka Musical Fantasy - i still can never get straight the name they go by) - The owner is Chris Zavolas - they really are GREAT! They were so awesome at our wedding and weddings that we went to after ours. They are located in jersey but do NY weddings all the time. Their number is 908-289-8897 - i'm not sure if it is cell number or work number - either way Chris is so great to work with.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

They don't do it. That is one of the reasons I didn't want a Greek-orthodox ceremony. Always wanted to exchange vows with my Husband (I feel like I am marrying the priest or the Koumbaro). But the things we do for Love. I agreed to be married in a Greek church. I am trying to get a Catholic priest come in and perform that during our wedding (which I know the greek church will not allow).

Re: Greek Brides Thread

So there is no way around it?...it seems kind of silly. It is not like we are requesting to take something out of the ceremony...

Anyone else have experience with this?
