Really, um, LOUD, neighbors...

So, last night FH and I went to bed at around 12... only to be woken up at 2 by his upstairs neighbors having REALLY loud sex (I thought the bed was going to fall through the ceiling onto us).

So, they get quiet for about 10 minutes, and then have sex twice more... so three times between 2 and 4.

So then I finally figure their done, as it's 4am, and fall asleep... only to be awoken AGAIN at 5, and again at 8.

Now, I'm all for a healthy sex life... but 5 times in one night, REALLY LOUDLY is REDICULOUS.

This isn't the first time this has happened... but it's usually only been once. Should we say something to them? Report them to the landlord?

They've already gotten fh and his roommate in trouble once (the neighbors below them complained to the landlord that fh and his roommate were dropping cigarette butts onto their patio, but neither of them smoke - the tenants on the 3rd floor do).

sorry, i'm just cranky from lack of sleep, and was hoping i could get some advice.

Re: Really, um, LOUD, neighbors...

wow neighbors like that would give DH a complex

My grandparents had this problem and told the landlord, then the neighbors were just told to keep it down. My grandparents had 2 men living upstairs from them who would fist fight and then make up and have wild gay sex. I am guilty of once or twice turning the TV down to get a better listen

Re: Really, um, LOUD, neighbors...

I have to admit that yes, I'm shocked, a little disturbed, and definitely sympathize with your lack of sleep... but... 5 times in one night??? daaaammmmnnnn!!! .... I'm also a little jealous!!!

You know what might work? Tonight, when it's really quiet, but not too late that they've gone to sleep already... YOU start mimcking her noises from the night before... and then start laughing! It might just embarass them enough to make them be a little quieter.

If not, then, yeah sure, call the landlord and very bluntly tell him that your upstairs neighbors are have sex too loudly at all hours of the night.

This could be a hilarious phone tap...

Re: Really, um, LOUD, neighbors...

Interesting post.....since this happened to me. My new, young neighbors (not the older couple that did live above me) just refused to move the bed away from the wall for some reason. We could hear them every time because of what I assume is the headboard banging against the shared wall.

It was not five times in one night - maybe twice once in a while? After about a month of trying to ignore it, I distributed a letter to all the surrounding neighbors (pretending not to know it was them) noting the loud, late-night noises and asking that they please make repairs to their apartment during the day. I was not brave enough to say 'please move your bed a few inches off the wall'. I sent a copy of the letter to the Board too.

The night before the letter was the last time I heard them. Not sure if they move the bed or just had a huge fight Either way, it's over.

We did want to get them back - however, we didn't want to psychologically disturb the 4 year old that sleeps in the room below FH

We're thinking of turning into Mr. Heckles and have a broom nearby at all times to tap on the ceiling.

But yes... this morning all FH could say was 'wow, as pissed off and sleep deprived as i am right now, i commend that man. we should try to beat him sometime'

We wanted to leave them a note that said.

'Hey - Quick Draw. Keep it down next time.'

Sorry ....we'll be more quiet next time

Ok, seriously, if the people who lived downstairs from me told me that my indoor sports were keeping them awake, I'd probably just be louder the next time, so I am not one to give advice, but I did want to give some
