What name do you put on a check for a newly married couple?

I'm going to a wedding this Sunday and am giving the couple a check. How do I write it out? Mr. & Mrs. Smith? Or do I write it out to my friend (the bride) Ms. Jane Doe?
I can't remember what people did when we got married (I think I was looking more at the dollar amount than who they made it out to! )

I write the checks to Cash.
that way anyone can cash it. I know, even by me, I won't change my name until LONG after, so.. if someone wrote Mr. and Mrs XXX I wouldn't be able to cash it... and the bride may be the one cashing..

Ours were all to Mr & Mrs XXX I had no problem cashing them even though I still havent changed the name on my bank account.

When I came in with a large # of checks they kinda knew why and I didnt have any issues.

I write them all out to Mr & Mrs.....

I know that everyone does this different....so we plan on just writing for deposit only on the back of the checks and deposit them into one of our accounts before we leave for our homeymoon.

We got some made out to cash
some made our to Mr. & Mrs xxxx
Some were Maxine & Joe xxxx
and some were just Maxine maiden name Joe xxx

I would say Cash is the best way to go. My Best Friend got married in Feb. and her bank gave them a hard time and made her re-sign all her checks in her maiden name because the name on the account wasn't changed yet and couldn't be since she hadn't changed her name (It was just after the wedding).

By the time you get married you should already have a joint account established.

I would say cash or with each person's name. We had trouble depositing the Mr. and Mrs. checks because we went before the honeymoon and didn't have the marriage certificate yet to prove that we were Mr and Mrs.

I would not make them out to cash. We had a few cards go missing at the reception (because people chose to put them on the gift table instead of handing them to us) and we never got them. If they made the check out to cash, anyone who picked them up could have cashed them and it was a while before one of the people asked if we cashed the check.

I think the easiest thing is to make the check out to one of the two people, and if the bride use her maiden name. Chances are they did not convert everything to her new name by the time they cash it. However, I did not change my name and we had no problem cashing the checks made out to Mr. & Mrs. because we changed the accounts to joint accounts before the wedding and just had to bring in the marriage certificate to the bank (they accepted the one the church sent.)

Writing "cash" is definitely the best way to go...

Okay, I'm going to be the total party pooper but I really wouldn't recommend "cash." As much as we want to think people at our reception site are honest people, my brother's card to my sister was stolen and there went the "cash." Anyone can deposit it and its as good as green. And trust me, this happened at a reception hall that is a vendor on here. So I say stay away from anyone else being able to cash it...JMO!
