Question about changing name

I wanted to have both my old and new last names on my license, this way I can keep different names on different things. Can I put both names or do I have to get my name legally changed? Can I go by both names? Like Gina x one one thing and Gina Y on another?

If anyone has done this, please give me some advice!!

I didn't do this, but my stepmother did when she and my dad got married.

When you get your marriage license, don't tell them you are changing your name, maybe they can put your maiden name down as a middle so you can use both.

My stepmother never changed her SS, but has checking accounts and all sorts of things in her married name. I'm not sure about her license.

I thought this would be a problem when tax time came and she said they must go by the SS# even though different documents have 2 different last names.

Also, the clerk you get you marriage license from may be able to answer some of your questions.

Thanks, I think I read somewhere that you can't change your middle name (mine's already on my license) without legally getting your name changed. I hope that's not the case! This is so confusing!
